well, did it? the fact the bidding has ended does not mean it is sold.....for that matter, the original owner can put the final bid to keep the car.... but it WOULD be low, that's true

Don't make me choose!! I like Esprits & base Birds too. But if I could only have one, it'd have to be a Trans Am. They were the top dog when they were new, & IMO, still are today.
For many of us, back when these were new, the choice simply boiled down to this; you like White or Blue, you bought a TA. You wanted more choice in colors, something other than White or Blue, you'd buy a Formula.

Why buy one TA, when you could probably buy two Formulas. '70 would be my choice, given the selection. But, I'm more of a '74 guy.

My girlfriend says the TA bodykit must have designed by an 8 year old school kid! Its really 'in your face' so it msut have been quite something back in the day. Then again I think the Formula hood also falls into this category. Personally I love 'em both. A TA looks more like a racer but a formula without the rear spoiler is a real sleek looking car, like an old Maserati.

I'm a Formula fan if you couldn't already tell, but I'd not pass on a T/A. Frankly, I think the endura nose makes the early second gens most appealing. The hood comes in a close second. M2C

I wanted that car but the bidding went a tad more than I had to spend.

You know, I've either owned or driven about every kind of supercar over the years. One of the fastest street cars I had ever driven was a 70 455 4 speed Formula. Was black with saddle tan (my words) interior and from a roll, it was an amazing car (stock tires). I will never forget that car and although I never owned a TA or Formula, I always keep my eye(s) open for one I can afford (I did have an original 400, 1967 Firebird that I was too young to appreciate). Both cars have a great following and are fantastic drivers! This topic may never be a never ending argument, so to speak.

A little more than 10 short years ago I owned both. The 70 Formula and 70 T/A were both numbers matching 4 speed cars, and both "strippers" (the Formula did have AC). The T/A was a project, but the Formula turned into a very nice daily driver. As far as I'm concerned, I wish I still had both, but the Formula is hands down the better looking car. The T/A has a certain "in your face" cartoonish appeal, but the spoilers and air dams really screw up the sleek look of the 70-73 body.
BTW, I paid $600 for the straight, rust free and drivable Formula; and $800 for the straight but rusty T/A. I'll be the same cars today would get 10 times that on Ebay... Such is life. |
