Default Biggest cam for Pontiac 350 with stock valve train?

Anyone running a larger than stock cam in their 350?
I have a 70 block which was rebuilt once already...engine is out at the moment and I want to put it in a 71 leMans project with new cam, lifters, push rods intake and carb.
I have all the parts available except the cam and lifters from another project.
Thanks.

Smile cam recomendation

Use the cam pontiac was using in the 69 manual tranmission 350-the 068, decent idle and plenty of power to 5000 rpm plus. Use fresh valve springs, try to get the compression up if possible.

Agree, 068 cam.

Stock valve train - factory cam.

Built a near-stock 350 with the 068 and it ran hard.

Jeff,

I donated a set of small-valve (1.96/1.66) 1969 #46 400/428 heads for this engine that belongs to my brother, it's in a '69 350 Firebird with a lot of weight-adding options including factory A/C.

Runs a 1969 iron Q-jet intake, 1972 Pontiac 400 750 Q-jet carb, log exhaust manifolds, 2-1/4" dual exhaust, TH400 trans, 2200 stall converter, 3.55 open rear and 235/60-15 street radials.

It ran in the high-14s traction limited as configured above, has since gone to repro long branch exhaust manifolds, 2-1/2" exhaust and a 3.42 geared 8.5" 10-bolt posi rear.

Bart,
Do/did you know the chamber volume of those heads, just curious...I'm learning about these 350 heads.

Those are cool cars. A friend, that's a member here, that doesn't post, bought one of those new. Ordered it while he was in Viet Nam. The deal was that they flew you to the assembly plant to pick it up, when out got discharged, his car was not ready, though. May have been because of some options....
Ra-III 400
long branch manifolds
TH400 w/ column shift
bench seat
3.90 posi
front disc
this is just the beginning of the "story"

He enjoyed pissing off the guys w/ new Z-28's, who knew they were unbeatable...

He wishes he still had the car, traded for a race only car

The 1969 #46 heads are around 72-76ccs, never did bother to measure these.
