Default milling the cam tower

has anyone milled the cam tower for a regrind cam?
I just had an old cam reground from crane and it has a much smaller base circle and machine shop is worried about milling a lot off it would take the lip off of both sides

has anyone done this and did you have any oil leak problems

Has been done many times for many years. Not any more of a leak problem than without milling.

That seems like a lot. Approaching 1/4". I thought that it was just a few thou that needed to be milled.

measurement from face of cover without the gasket is 1.696 and crane says I need 1.380-1.386 the cam is a h320 I already have valve stems .050 longer from the previous cam and can shim the lash adjusters .050 but still have to make up the difference

That would mean that the cam's base circle (diameter) was reduced .430". Huh???
