Missouri Tornadoes
I see Eldon , Missouri was one of the towns hit by a tornado yesterday. I believe that is where CarbKing lives. Hopefully all is well with him and his family.

My company has an office in Jefferson City, but fortunately at last report everyone there was okay and didn't have damage.

X2! For all those effected by this weeks bad storms.
Jeff, very glad to see there was not another ElReno tornado on Monday. The way Mon AM started out, was VERY concerning! Was in Stillwater yesterday morning, and out directly west of Express Farms N of Yukon this morning. This mornings mess was attempting to extract a large track loader that is buried in the soft ground. Going to have to wait it out. Way too much floodwater out your way & further East, stay safe!

No tornadoes here so far, (I'm in Kansas along the Ks. Mo. border about 50 miles south of KC) but we're getting a lot of rain; 14 inches so far this month and, looking at the radar, another wave of storms will be moving through in an hour or so. Lots of flooding going on and no ones getting any planting done. It's likely to be a rough year for the farmers around here.

Thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Wednesday night was wild in Missouri
The damage in both Jefferson City and Eldon is immense (we even made the Weather Channel - 161 pictures). Eldon was hit by what an amateur meteorologist suggested was either a strong EF-2 or possibly and EF-3, plus some other micro-twisters and strong 70 + MPH straight-line winds. The major tornado "hopscotched" up and then touch down, up and then touch down. It went directly over my house, and touched down 400 FEET later. The only damage personally suffered were the contents of the refrigerator (46 hours without power will do that). Food in the freezer survived. This same storm spawned the EF-3 that tore up Jefferson City. Details in Eldon: Power loss for 80 percent of the city approximately 12 hours, power finally restored to all after 46 hours. All supermarkets damaged and closed (still). Expect one to reopen tomorrow, the others some time next week. All eating establishments closed, at least all day Thursday, one was able to open this morning. Medical facility damaged and temporarily closed All but one service stations closed for at least 24 hours. Most have reopened. NO FATALITIES Only one known minor injury Jefferson City had no known fatalities, but more than 20 injured. Eldon will be relatively back to normal in a week or so, but there will still be a lot of lingering damage. I would like to pay tribute to neighbors from neighboring communities that did not get hit. By 10:00 A.M. Thursday morning there were many "strangers" in town with chainsaws, large trucks, bobcats, etc. They weren't asked, as far as I know, they weren't paid. They just saw a need and pitched in! My guess is that the same thing occurs in the areas being flooded and other calamities, but it really shows the goodness in people! End of rant. Again, thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Jon.

Update to the above post:
I somewhat understated the severity of the damage. Having no power, I had no access to news, etc., and was going by word of mouth. Law enforcement was trying to keep those sightseeing from the damaged areas, and I complied with that request. According to a special report aired this evening: More than 70 homes destroyed No estimate of those that sustained repairable damage So Eldon will not be fairly normal in a couple of weeks, will take longer. Encouraging signs, some of which I saw, others on the report: Company with no power, but a large smoker, sat up the smoker in their parking lot, and provided free hot dogs, hamburgers, and sides. Distributed by employees. Other companies with power set up free food venues in their parking lots. Bottled water was trucked in and distributed by high school students (volunteers). A car dealership invited any in need to come in to the air conditioning (it was HOT today), for just lounging around and free coffee and soft drinks. There was more of the above, but I believe the picture is clear. Jefferson City has much more damage than Eldon (its a MUCH larger city), and the same types of volunteer help was going on in Jefferson City. It will be quite awhile before normality returns to either city. Jon.

Odessa
On my way to Montana from St., Louis.
Stopped in Odessa, MO about 38 miles from MO/KS border. Woke to tornado sirens about 8:30 pm. Sheets of heavy rain - high winds lasted quite awhile but no tornados. No offense but Missouri sure sucks to drive thru this time of year - neck & neck with Oklahoma for severe weather risk. Jim
