Default 2022 Updates

None..other than rebuilding a leaking master cylinder.

Realistic et goal for 2022 10.5/127 1.50 60ft
Possible et goal for 2022 10.4's/128/129 sub 1.5 60foot

best et 10.76 at 125.64 with a 1.5471 60ft with 308 gears in 2018

Late 2021 replaced trashed th 350 mainly because the car wouldn't 60 foot under 1.6
I have zero miles on the fresh trans

Also aiming to get 14mpg plus with the 3.73 gears.

Two carbs to run back to back trusty old 950HP and the newer unproven Pro Systems which was hampered by transmission issues but showed a higher mph. The Holley gets excellent fuel mileage, close to 18mpg with the 308 gears.
I currently have a 10 inch UCC convertor installed, it should have a flash of 3800..that also has never been tested with a healthy transmission. I also still have my 3200 10 inch "JIM HAND" Continental convertor..so there may be some convertor tweaking happening this year as well.
I also still have not settled on shift points for this newer engine combination.
So lots to test this year with the current combination of parts..I should have plenty of track days to play and test unlike the last 2 years.

I will be waiting for all the “ results” that you share with us ( very thankful!!!).
I hope this years testing goes your way!

Man I remember when you swapped to the performer RPM, and what a huge leap in performance that was going to bring ( Andy’s car performed well with that intake). That deal didn’t go the direction you hoped for OR where we were all sure it would go, picking up a tenth or two.

Does the latest trans build still have the lower gears in it?

18 MPG with that combo would be crazy! But not really, considering your build and close knit tuning.

I keep wondering if your great performance numbers may have al great deal to do, with how the engine, Trans and diff are all in a perfect storm of being loaded, ( highly loaded!) to propel your car to such great performance, this is in reference to all thrums with 3.08 gear. Sure seems like the 3.73 gear would improve the performance......

Carry on!!!

Good luck TA, I always enjoy your results. I think 14mpg with a Holley/373s/600hp would be an amazing feat. I think 10 would be good

It achieved 18mpg with the 308's so it will be interesting what it does.

Yes interesting over the years of what worked and what didn't. That intake test and also the annular main body didn't work out. Opposite of what many thought. The interesting test was dropping the 2.5 inch tailpipes which showed an immediate gain in mph and et. That was the year with the old combo and I dropped 4 tenths in total for marginal cost, buying a new Torker 2 and having it ported and dropping the tailpipes.

You'll find with carb testing that once you tune one that's dead nuts on the money for your set-up, there is NOTHING waiting for you on the time slip messing around with anything else, it would defy the laws of physics if it did..........Carburetors are metering devices, wouldn't matter if you carved one out of a block of wood, if it provided adequate cfm, seamless transition and A/F spot on across the load speed range nothing else is going to improve anything.

Same thing with distributors and bug zapping ignition systems, very little if anything waiting for you there either, provided every one tested was dialed in the same and it good working order.

The torque converter is a MAJOR player in what you are doing, LOTS of variables in that equation, flash stall, load stall, torque multiplication, efficiency once past the stall speed, etc. Certainly looking forward to seeing if you can find anything there.

18mpg's is getting it done for an HP950. I suspect someones been into the metering blocks and airbleeds in the main casting or it's a winning lottery ticket!

I've been off the Forum for a while, what is the "new" engine combo?.........

Cliff stock 950HP..but it was barely into the primaries at cruise. I believe it's the Higher compression, efficient combustion chambers , tight convertor and mild gears that combined for the mileage.

Yep…….only ONE way to find what works for YOUR combo!

Absolutely. The better job you do at picking compression and cam the more efficient the engine will be at light engine load. My engine is similar and very efficient. I haven't done any fuel economy testing with this one, but my last 455 with KRE heads was going between 200-230 miles on 14 to 14.4 gallons of fuel the few times I checked it. This one will go at least that far as it sips fuel if you drive it gently.........

Ignition consists of a junkyard HEI with positive stops, quick curve..need to check the details..should be 31 degrees total all in by 2400/2600 rpm..20 degrees at 1000 rpm..ported vacuum advance adds 12 at cruise( need to check this as well) I've messed with the timing so often always trying to find the sweet spot for cruise and also for the track.

"C" clip eliminators on axles???

Do you think your engine could tolerate a dist vacuum cam with more advance???

Are those the cfm's of those carbs, or just the carb I.D. numbers? I know some of that stuff changed, years back...

I wonder how Chris is doing, after painting his car, whether he can go with you and Andy for some flogging, hopefully....

I doubt if it needs more than 12 degrees in addition to the mechanical curve. The compression ratio on my similar 455 is a little higher and the older version of the OF cam. I've varied the VA timing from 10 to 15 via ported vacuum and it doesn't much care.

"ported vacuum advance adds 12 at cruise( need to check this as well) I've messed with the timing so often always trying to find the sweet spot for cruise and also for the track."

I LOVE It! I'm sure you know that it's not possible to use ported vacuum to the advance and get good idle quality plus 18 mpg's w/o overdrive. You've got to be careful putting info like that up here, now we're going to have to put a few Forum members on suicide watch!

Seriously, I'm actually glad you did and not me, because every time I mention that it starts a chain of PM's from my "fan club" telling others how I don't know jack squat about tuning because I'm not using manifold vacuum to the advance......LOL.....

The Holley 950 HP from what I've been told flows around 830cfm..the Prosystems is approximately 940cfm.
