Default '77 TA on Mecum with 14 miles on the odometer

I can't see the first digit well enough but in the description they claim it's 14 miles. From the looks of the car, could be true. No other details provided.

Listing says "highly detailed engine compartment". It is. They certainly weren't that nice from the factory, especially after 45 years. So what's original, or is this a fully restored car that someone zero'd the odometer on?

I know nothing about this car, but, why wouldn’t it just simply say “14 original miles”. Not “odometer reads 14 miles”. Also numbers matching engine. Well wouldn’t that be a given with 14 supposed miles. Numbers matching doesn’t mean the original. Seems like they’re dancing around the truth, or could do a lot better write up if it’s legit.

The wheels and stance just doesn’t look right to me….the under carriage also looks way too nice to be unrestored…

Don't know about second gens, but earlier latch assemblies came after paint.

Yeah, I it looks more like it's been REstored rather than in storage for the last 45 years.

Somebody is going to pay a huge amount of money for that car. I hope it really has 14 original miles on it. I would have no idea. I do know with a cordless drill and a pile of batteries, all our cars can SHOW 14 miles on the odometer, for whatever that's worth.

Actually, 1st Gen Firebirds were painted with door and decklid latches & strikers previously installed.

Yes, beginning in 1968. Same with A bodies.

It has that awful standard interior, yet has the dash "oh ****" strap? Could be factory error...

I could be wrong but the engine looks way to detailed to be untouched.

Fox News had an article on this car and the owner said it toured with Pontiac for shows when new. After the owner had it the car suffered some damage and was repaired at a local vocational school.

They mention using the car for parades which I think would amount to more than 14 miles?

Google ‘Fox News Trans Am’ for the article

My school got 2 such vehicles that were damaged by overhead ramps falling on them on a car carrier. The same car carrier delivered them to the school as it happened near a local dealership. A GM " loss prevention " rep was there at delivery and informed the Shop class teacher that they could Never be registered, and told him to remove the VIN on both cars. I watched the glass get broken after it was taped, and the Vin numbers handed to the rep. Gm took a full loss deduction for the donation because the delivery system was GM self insured. Our school shop, in conjunctionwith a local Dealership, got a REPAIR PLATE and we did drive the Chevelle some. 8 years after graduation it was sitting forlorn outback missing lights, interior, etc. 307 still 100% intact lol.
So. I'm not sure just how a school got a donated ( deduction) car and kept the Vin. GM would never bring it to a school for repair to sell either.
Why it was NOT sold or registered? Probably had No Vin..
Thats a BIG statement, but I don't see much paperwork from 77.
This is my Observation, based on experience, and a buddy who got 2 Pontiacs at his school in PA. where I am From originally.
Obviously one can get the original Vin " number" from the door decal.
I am betting this car cannot Legally be registered, and will never be.
Ps, the other car was a 71 Vagrant.

I think the car was damaged after the owner bought it from a dealer

I remember like it was yesterday when I worked at the Pontiac dealer. The owner of the dealership marched back to the used car manager and just chewed his *%#$** for giving a guy $1500.00 trade in for a black TA that looked just like that one. It was a really nice car and I don't know the mileage, But I remember him screaming "If you EVER give someone over $1200.00 for one of those cars trade-in again, your going to be looking for a new job!" This was 1980 so the car was 3-4 years old. He was off the hook when one of the other tech's gave him $1750.00 for it a couple days later. Wonder what he would have to say about one of those cars bringing nearly 1/2 million bucks. Truly incredible!.
