Also it’s been stated here all too many times that when you adjust a a poly lock one full turn that such is equal to .050”, that’s not the case!
Your dealing with a rocker which has a ratio being applied to its valve end! One full turn of the poly lock makes for more like a adjustment change of .074”, not .050”. I forget the exact formula, but its not hard to find!

ok, sounds like a no... im all for taking the easy way out but for something like this its best to verify the rocker adjustment is correct. or you could have a bad/ticking lifter(s) that is all too common with hyd rollers.

How about a 15/16" socket on a 1/2" drive and a 2' breaker bar or 1/2" drive torque wrench.

Agree with the above, you will still need to bar it over by hand to get the valves / lifters right where they should be for precise adjustments.
The remote Crank button will only get you a course rotation.

much more accurate to remove the plugs & just rotate the engine by hand. when adjusting the rockers the cam needs to be in a specific position doing the E/O I/C or the crank in a certain position doing the multiple valves at a time procedure some use on smaller cams. using a remoter starter switch wont be accurate but will help get it close if you dont want to use a breaker bar or long ratchet to do it by hand.

Ok that makes sense…thanks guys! I will do it with the breaker bar!
One other little update was I spoke to Butler and showed them the videos and they seemed to feel like it doesn’t sound that abnormal because the short travel lifters and 1.65 rollerized rockers are usually louder! They did ask what oil I was running and being that I don’t even have 20 miles on the engine yet I still have the 30 weight break in oil in. So they said to try an oil change with some heavier 20/50 oil and that could help a lot. I am still going to check and go through the valve adjustment but thought I’d get your thoughts |

if the motor was built to "normal" street engine specs a thinner oil, that still provides good oil psi is usually better for the engine, oil flow is more important than overly thick or too high of psi. thats not to say 20/50 is bad & most synthetic 20/50s do have good cold pour numbers, but using thicker than needed oil based on the engines specs doesnt have any real benefit & some cam companies as well as a very reputable pontiac builder says to use 10/30. also being you are in florida a good synthetic 20/50 wont be an issue. but if it doesnt help the lifter noise after trying it, might want to consider trying a 10/30? |

hmm sounds like you have some great advise here, i'm curious if you know the rocker in question if it was moved to another valve and tick transferred? I know my HR rockers can be installed incorrectly if you don't put them down on the stud with correct side down.

So after your suggestions and guidance I adjusted the valves and rockers to 3/4 of a turn after zero lash and it sounds much much better……I do still hear a slight clicking crusing around 2,500 rpm. But I do wonder if that normal for these known louder Crower Enduro hydraulic 1.65 and big cam? Tell me if you think this sounds as it should now! Thanks for everything! The second to last rocker was notiably more loose than the rest which I’m thinking came after those New heads expanded? |

yellow1098 stated in post #10 that he had Johnson short travel lifters. Getting close to bottoming them out.

sounds much better, the tick is pretty close to the sewing machine sound most people say full roller rockers have.
as for the lash of short travel lifters, i will leave that up to the experts, i forget the exact numbers but i thought i read that standard BBC rocker studs provide less movement due to thread pitch than is usually required, so if the adjustment is say 1/2 turn past zero lash you really want to go a little more? but i could be backwards on that. cliff r likes to bottom them out on the stud then back off a certain amount, maybe he will chime in on those details. if it runs ok as is, drive it some & see if anything changes. also try whatever weight oil you want... but probably best to ask the builder what weight they suggest based on internal specs it was built to. |

Easy way is to mark the balancer at 45 degree increments from TDC and follow the firing order.
