Where is the engine ID number located on a 350. I am doing my first restoration on a 71 LeMans mainly because I can't afford a GTO right now.

Thanks for any help.

Which number are you looking for? There is more than one number on your engine that identifies it. There is a 2 digit code on the front of the block just below the passenger side head. Yours is probably WR, WU, YU, or XR. The VIN code on the block is located on the front of the block just to the passenger side of the timing cover. The last six digits should match the last six digits in your car's VIN # (assuming it's a #s matching car). Also, there is a block casting number located just behing the #8 cylinder on the passenger side of the block. Yours is probably 481990, which designates a 71 350ci. A Year One catalog is an excellent source for IDing many Pontiac engines. I would still however spend my money at Ames or Performance Years.

Good Luck
Schneid
