I was reading an article in a hot rod mag. a while back that chronicled a 40 or 41 Willys build-up. To get the fat (or fatter) fendered look, they split the fender along the longitudinal curve at the center the entire length. They then placed a filler strip of 20-22 ga. sheet metal in between to form a lap joint on each side. Don't remember the width they used but obviously what ever you need can be acheived.
Important to leave the filler piece on the bottom of both laps, as after all tack welding is done you will lead the lower filler transition in. Then follow w/ a quality filler & top w/ a quality polyester filler. Not sure if they welded the entire seams or just stitch welded.

If you're interested there are repo fenders (41-48) available that r 2" wider.

Play, where would I find those, howmuch are they and do they come in fiberglass or steel?I think I would prefer to go w/the repops as I don't want to mess up the perfect originals.
