Does anyone know what the correct wording is on original tires? my original window sticker has F70X14 FIBERGLASS TIRES WHITE LETTERS. Good Year Polyglass white letters correct?without the f70x14 in white letters. Are the ones Kelsey Tire sells correct?thanks John

The Goodyears are correct and they should say the size on the tire. I had this same conversation with the guy at Kelsey and did my research and they should have the the size on the tire.

It depends on when the car was built. Most 1969 Trans Am's (ordered with RWL's) received Goodyears that were not sized, they just had "GOODYEAR" and "POLYGLAS" on the sidewall. Very late in the year, they began using sized Goodyears, where they had "GOODYEAR" and "POLYGLAS - F70 14" on the sidewall.

They reproduce both types of tires now, but they're expensive. The unsized versions run over $300 a tire.

Chevrolet sourced Firestone Wide Oval white letters, as well as Goodyear versions that had "Wide Tread" on the sidewall, plus the sized Goodyear Polyglas versions.

Most car shows won't even deduct points for having radials, but if you're going for a concours show winner, I'd go with the version that has "GOODYEAR" and "POLYGLAS" on the sidewall.

I've never seen no size tires on any gm car. Always on mopars and fords. I think Chuck is completely correct with his response. Most 69 trans ams had thin line whitewalls when new.

They used un-sized Goodyears on Trans Am's until late in the year. The 1969 Hurst/Olds also used un-sized Goodyears (Polyglas GT's on 15x7 rims).

The earliest factory photo I've seen of 1969 Trans Am with sized Goodyears was the Sept 1969 Pontiac Chieftain News.

You are correct in having the no size version. The elevated size tire did not come available until Sept/October '69 and not all of the plants converted at the same time. It was a rolling change between September and December of '69.

If you are looking for the lowest prices on the Goodyear reproductions, contact me. My cell is 816-654-3400.

Were GOODYEAR WIDE GUARD GT white letter ever used on the 69 T/A? A friend has a set of F70-14 he is saving for his 69 T/A restoration.

I am not familiar with that tire. It may have been a non-OEM tire from the time. Can you post some pictures of these treads? Always willing to learn and see what was out there.
