The later 2nd gen Trans Ams and the hideaway GTO crowd may be more noticed and have plenty of valuable stuff to rip off, but this is a most unusual piece to steal and it's most likely not your usual smash and grab jobber.

Cops are going to be useless. It's a "victimless crime" that we are conditioned to accept as the price we pay for our society - that stuff gets stolen and it's somehow our fault that other people can't keep their hands to themselves, that we should have known and protected it better. When I got my dual snorkel air cleaner and shaker walked off with or my VIN plates pried off my car, the cops told me it wasn't worth their trouble to investigate because no one was dead and how did they know I wasn't scamming them by faking it?

I quit calling the cops.....

I sent a PM to OMT about his personal info. If any of you have direct contact info maybe you could have a conversation. As someone who's had identity theft problems, it bothers me for him.

At one time in Russia it was common for people to bring their windshield wipers in at night. Can see some of the rarer shift knobs but a steering wheel ? No eay to remove, suspect was on order.

Well, I see that y'all have been pursuing a way to help OMT as well. On another forum, we have discussed ways to help him replace the stolen steering wheel. I see here, that it looks like he already found one for himself and maybe just helping him pay for it is the best way we can help. Did anyone create a go fund me page for it?

Sorry to hear about this. I've had parts stolen too.
We should all start checking online ads to see if it shows up, but I bet it was someone looking for one for their own car.
So it might be suspicious if you run across someone who just got a nice wood wheel for their GTO. Since it was a nationwide show, it could be anywhere.
It might be good to mark your rare parts with your driver's license number and then take pictures of it. At least a DL number is a not much of a security risk and cops can easily look it up.
"Can you remove it without a puller? " Yes, but the safe way is to loosen the nut and wiggle it off so you don't lose your front teeth.

Hello Jim. Sorry to hear about your rotten luck. Lots of people in this world that just aren't worth a CRA*. I had heard some negative stories about car shows at the Dells. That is why I canceled out. Wish I had know you were going to be there. That had to be a long pull for you. WOW Ian told me you had been there.

Take care my friend.

"Bill"!
