Default Hood Tach

I recently restored my 69 GTO. The hood tach was painted as well. The tach is connected correctly. I am using as MSD distrubitor and an ACELL coil. I do get idle RPM indicated and just a little on acceleration up to about 1800 RPM. I have cleaned corrosion, ensured electrical connections were good and done everything I can find on this forum. The car came with the hood tach option but I am sure this is not the factory tach. I would like help in identifing the tach so I could purchase a duplicatre and use the pained outger shell from the one I have. What type of inforfmation should I provide for you to help me with this?

Default 67 68 9 70

Hmmm..

My 67 on the left off a 67 400 ws bird... late 68-9 from my 68 GTO convert center

and really late 69 or maybe a service replacement with the vent hole....on the right

I pulled from a 69 Judge hood in '82 with 17,000 miles...

looks like a 68 -9 with 2 lights....

my .02 cents worth.....

Default Tach

This was all stuck together with silicone. I drilled a hole in the front so disregard that. I can get a new one easy enough. Just need reccomendations for which one.

looks its an early reproduction 67 tach...probably isnt worth the money to repair it, and would be almost impossible to id who made it...you could buy a new 67 tach, take it apart and put your shell on its guts..but its not correct for a 69...

Default New Tach

I have decided to purchas a reproduction tach for my 69 GTO. I do almost all of my business with PY and prefer to keep it that way. However, I want the one that works. I need to know who makes the best one that will work for me. I have Mallory Unilite distributor using an Accell coil. Please take a moment and give me your recomendation.

The PY and Ames tachs are both good. I would bet you have a tach
sold by Year One. Over the years I have seen two Year One tachs do what you
are describing. Here's another thing to keep in mind.......always hook up the tach and
verify it works BEFORE you paint it......been there and done that!

You want the one with the glass face, I think the parts place makes it.

Most aftermarket replacement tachs will not read correctly with aftermarket ignition systems, they read fairly close at idle and a lazy at about 2000 rpm.Do a search at camaros.net and you will find out how to build a tach filter from radio shack parts for a few dollars to fix the problem that you are having.
