Keith,
Answers to your questions;

Quote:
how is the pedal "feel"? On the pickups/vans, the hydroboost has a much more "firm" feel; the vacuum jobs are more "cushy" by comparison.
Feels much more solid and proper!

Quote:
did you keep the same pedal ratio (that is, did you put the brake pedal rod back in the same hole)?
Actually used the lower hole on the pedal rod because it was in a direct line for the "untilted" mount on the master and hydroboost I opted to do. I almost believe they must have engineered the car for this upgrade! It fit SO WELL.

Quote:
did you retain the brake pedal rod in the back of the booster somehow? My concern is that if you pull up on the brake pedal itself would the rod drop out of the booster. I have heard of that happening.
The pedal rods that came with the unit I bought (2 of them,Long and Short), were so well made that they "snap in" to the rear of the hydroboost unit. The guys I bought from Must have done this before! They are not going to come out with the rod adjusted for proper free play. Not possible IMO.

I am at least 120% SATISFIED, maybe more!

Cheers,
Charles

Question What High Pressure line goes where?

Which port on the hydroboost is used as the input from the Pump and which one is used going out to the steering box?

Thank you kindly Keith,

I sure am happy with my setup. Not even sure I need to put the Scarebird brackets and the Eldorado disk units on the rear. They are still in the box, I guess I'll wait till car is on the road again to make up my mind. I remember the drums getting wet in high water and having to ride them to dry them out, but I can't see myself doing the "high water" thing any more.

I have exchanged several Emails, with Nick over the last several days, regarding his hydra boost bracket for the 2nd gen. He indicated he would be willing to make another run if he could get 25 paid orders. So how about it? Let’s get the ball rolling. I will be posting this on the Pontiac Zone, Performance Years, Pontiac Street Performance, and Pro-Touring sites.

Does the Firebird require a bracket to tilt the unit for clearance?
I know first hand that the A body does not need it!

What are you going to put it on, your Ventura?

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Yup, the ventura. The cam barely runs the brakes and my valve cover is a pain to take off. HB should fix both issues. I hope to see much better braking too.

I will be looking for a base plate i am guessing but will not know exactly until look alittle closer.

Sounds like a perfect candidate.
I was able to put mine in without a bracket, but you may not have as much room there. Some of the others are putting them in upside down to gain more room by the valve cover. Keep us posted, would like to see your progress.

This is too cool! So, what hydraboost (I, II, or III) setup is best for installation in my 70 GTO and is one setup better than the other? I did not know GM was utilizing this technology in cars???

thanks for the FYI guys!

Ollie I tried emailing Nick too. One response then nothing. I would of been in on that deal.
For now I want to know too what Biltit asked. In my 2nd Gen,
"Do you need an angled adapter plate of some kind?"
How similar are the Astro Van mounts to what is on the Firebird firewall.??

The 998 has the angled bracket. The only cars I have seen w/hydroboost are the old GM trucks and some Astro/Safari models. I checked out the local yards and did notice not all of the Astro/Safari vans had HB. The older ones....pre-96, I think, use 528...which are a straight forward mount. The 96-up, 998 HB, have the angled bracket and seems all of them had it. I will be at the yards again on Fri. I had a couple guys ask me to find one for them. If anyone else needs one, email me direct,
GStage1@buickperformance.com

Thanks!

Hi, Vidguy.

Reading Nicks original post it sounds like he travels quite a bit for extened periods of time with his job. You are the only one who has responded with any interest in one of Nicks brackes. I have about given up on getting enought response for Nick to make another production run. I bought a Hydroboost unit from the same Ebay seller as Old Goat 67. I have a 79 TA and the master cyl. / power booster tilts up at quite an angle. I don't know what kind of an adapter it will take. I will attempt to use it the way Old Goat 67 did.

Biltit,
Can you add your first name to your signature line?

As for my statement....I only deal with GM cars and trucks....so HB was only offered on the GM full size trucks in the 70s-up. I have not seen one GM car with HB.....the only newer vehicles with HB that I have seen are the Safari/Astro vans. If you have additional GM info, let me know. I will be hitting my local salvage yards on Friday.

As for the mounting angle....it appears to me the mounting bracket on the 998 HB can be rotated. If I get one tomorrow, I will post of pic of it. I think I have an old Skylark power booster to compare firewall mounting angles.

GStage1

The Diesel powered cars also had Hydroboost brakes.

I'll answer some of the repetatory unanswered questions here. Look at the other HB post a few topics down to see pictures of my setup.

the adaptor plates on the HB units have diiferent bolt patterns than a 2nd gen. get the straight one. no need to the angled one. I'm sure you could modify the brake pedal support to use the HB bracket. I was able to one of Nicks and it made life easy. Stay away from truck units as the valving is internally different. Astro/ Safari ones are optimum. 94+up. mustang ones will work but have less pressure. You will need to modify the eyelet on the HB unit, no if ands or buts. brake pedal to rod ratio should be 1:7 IIRC. My 78 brake pedal had a 2nd hole on it that I used and matematically worked out very close to the proper ratio.
