Joel, ya you're right it is twisted just a hair. Good eye. I plan to loosen everything up and twist it a tad.
Yeah I like the plastic aluminum look there.
It's at least 5 pounds lighter! Must be good for a .tenth

Yeah, That is the same thing I was refering too in this post,

#64 and 69. There is some play between the tab on the plate and the slot on the hydroboost.

Damn you guys are rough!!! OK I'll Twist it!

My bolts were pretty evenly horizontal Ollie (referrring to you question in the other thread..) I did recall when putting the HB on that the booster will swivel a bit. As you noted the notch and the tab do have some play. THis isnt my "Final" install so I'll get that right.
I am going overseas on a trip and will be gone till June so I'll get to it when I get home. I'm gonna miss some prime warm working on the car weather too!
Good luck on your projects while Im gone guys! I expect some updates.

I'm working on my Brake lines now, fabbing up my front lines myself.
How'd you guys do?

Hi Guys:

I was re-reading this thread in anticipation of my install. I just picked up a Safari HB unit, in prime shape, including the 1.25" m/c, proportioning valve, remote reservoir and fittings for the pressure lines (these are just to make sure I know which fittings to get when I have the lines made up) for $25.

I'm not sure the year of the Safari but I'm thinking '93 or '94. What I did notice that is different from VidGuy's booster is that mine has a flat mount plate. No raised/depressed are around the nut. And mine also has a very slight tilt upward to the unit. Using two small levels I measured it scientifically at nose up by 1/8 of a bubble.

Now to figure out my mounting. The adaptor plate looks good but I read that some guys are having problems with not getting delivery. I'm thinking I'll be mounting mine upside down and working out something along the line of VidGuy's install. Possibly with an intermediate plate. Who knows?

This is a great thread.

Yes great Mod and good info here. .
When Im done I'm going to consolidate all this info and See if I cant get B-Man or another moderator to make it a sticky.

I'm at the point of figuring out the hoses..

I think the perfectly flat plate is what I would have preferred. But I didn't have that. Hence the slight angles I used to get the rod straight.

It wasnt a big deal but I would have preferred the flat plate. Since I ended up having to drill the plate to fit the firewall studs, as you will anyhow I elected to NOT pay $30.00 for the flat plate the guy on eBay sells. I would have had to drill that too.. So I used mine. I wonder (dont think so, but wonder) now if the flat plate would have put parts of my install very close to my heads or valve covers. Maybe the hard brake lines I made anyhow.. I'll see when I install the motor.
You scored.
Keep us up-to-date.

I am going to use my Stock Steering Gear and Pump. So I need to find adapters for the SAE fittings on the gear to the Newer lines... I think...
I have never used AN lines or fittings so I know zero about using these things where to find them and whats available.. I have looked around and the choices are wildly confusing

Here is a link to Old Goats slideshow on photobucket..
http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/a...view=slideshow

The last 2 shots show the hoses he used that fit the hydroboost. He cut the gear and pump ends and flared them to SAE.. I want to find adapters.. just for simplicity.
The part numbers he used were:
GM 357640
GM 35-366630

Adapters for at the steering box? I know they are available and used on trucks alot. I can find them if that is what you are looking for.

Not sure if this is what you need but they may have other adapters aswell (Lee manufacturing).

On my TA the angled bracket points the pedal rod at the lower hole on the pedal arm. Mounting it straight on will point the pushrod at the upper hole that is now used to hold the arm for the brake light switch. I'll just switch holes.

If I can get hoses made up, I may or I may use the GM hoses with adaptors or new SAE ends. Haven't gotten that far yet. Let me know what you find for adaptors.

It looks like I may have to use the OEM proportioning valve. It has one line in for the front and two lines out. The later ones have one line in and one line out into a y-block to the front calipers. Either that or get a y-block.

"Simplicity" for me was buying a $6.00 die at Car Quest and doing the double-flare.

''This is a copy from one of the post you linked to. This is something I have been looking for and will save alot of time. O-ring to Flare adapters for '81 and down Hydroboost.

Bill usn-1
Moderator IH Fuel Injection

Next I had to run the pressure hoses.
This is where I did a little research.

I found a really neat way to convert the late model o-ring fittings to the old style inverted flare that the scout uses.

They are bushings made by Lee manufacturing.
818-768-0371
Pressure 40620 $3.97
Return 40630 $3.97
They tap right in using a 1/4" bolt and nut as a driver!
Once in, the stock scout hoses bolt right up!

Best part is they are about $10 total to your door.''

Here is some major reading but looks like the most HB stuff in one place.

Awesome Derek! Thanks!!

I'll combine that with some of my Hydroboost links that haven't been posted!
Here ya go:

That one's kinda cool. It is a repair and troubleshooting document. Shows how they work.
------------
http://www.angryamerica.com/chevelles/hydroboost.html
This guy bought the kit and installed it. Gives some info on the hoses.
------------
http://classicbroncos.com/forums/arc...p?t-92316.html
They do this swap a lot in Early Broncos. Here is a Very informative thread. He too has some adapter hose info...
------------
http://www.performancetrucks.net/for...d.php?t=445079
This guy makes a note of the problem of not hooking up the return line correctly and how it made his brakes drag..
------------
Derek I would LOVE some help with the adapters.. I'm going to first buy the hoses that Old Goat used. See how they fit, and then I'll know what adapters I might need.

I'd like to see people list the parts they used when they are done Mainly the hoses situation.
I know Joel Koontz did that and others have had them made up.

Old Goat 67..
I just flared a bunch of brake lines. I'm not bad at it...I know you did that and I may give that a try.....I'd like to price the non "destructive approach" first. (Adapters) that's more what I meant then Simplicity..
Hey you're the Hydroboost MAN.. that got me going on this..

So it looks like these screw into your flared fittings on the Steering Gear and one on the Power Steering pump? and then you screw your new hoses into them? Or do I have it backwards.

I think the fitting on the rear of the power steering pump can be removed and the proper one installed.

You could just have hoses made up with the proper ends, whichever it may be.

These guys should have adapters but you will need to call them.

I was going to price the stock hoses + the adapters. I think that might be cheaper.
I also talked to a vendor on eBay that has a power Steering pump for Hydroboost. I could buy that and swap that reservoir onto my pump and use the stock hose from the Hydroboost to the pump anyhow.
Then a fitting or somethign else custom on the Steering gear...
Thinking out loud..

Im going to call them.

Ok Called Lee Manufacturing.
Turns out they are some kind of generic plug fitting that you drive in and then thread into. Apparently they sell a lot of them the nice lady said.
$4.00 each nowadays
I didnt ask what the shipping was, I but ordered them!

Do the adaptors convert to or from the 45* flare? The ones BILTIT cited are to convert from the o-ring fittings to the inverted flare. If you get the GM o-ring hoses you need to convert the inverted flair in the pump and box to the o-ring style. Do these do that?

Just a little confused.
