Default Core support needs to be straightened

It was over 40 degrees and sunny yesterday, a bit of a treat. It gave us a chance to pull the cover off of the car and start planning for what we need to do to it. One thing that we'll have to address is the core support and front sheet metal in general. It's been banged in and I would replace the core support, but they are hard to find in good shape and expensive for A/C cars. Just wondering if anyone has had success with straightening out a core support. Did you pull it out while it was on the car? I've got to get the center out just to get the hood to close properly. The slamming of the hood over time with the pin not aligned with the catch, has caused the understructure of the hood to separate from the top skin.
The rest of the car is rock solid.

Unless you have a way to anchor the ends, leave it on the car. Right now the fenders will hold it secure while you try and straighten it. Or you can do like I did. I used parts of non-a/c supports to repair an a/c support with damage similar to yours. I needed the upper plate and one side, as the bottom was solid.

Not a direct answer to your question, but if you can find a non-AC core support in good shape for cheap, Cold Case now sells a kit that allows you to convert non-AC core supports to an AC core support. If you find a good used donor support, that could be easier and look better than trying to bend back your current banged up support.

They also sell complete A/C core supports, but they are quite costly.

Yes, we're resigned to the fact that a more wholesale change like that may be necessary. Definitely plan B, though.

If it were me, I would buy the reproduction non a/c supprt,(or a good used one) and graph the bottom portion of your a/c support onto it.
