What's the difference between AC Delco and Delphi?
I thought Delphi was OE stuff? I'm looking at a fuel pump for the T/A if that matters so it seems odd that both offer a pump. The Delphi pump includes the AC Delco part number.

Our AC Delco rep told me 2-3 yrs ago Delphi makes a lot of AC-Delco parts, and GM was deciding when whether to drop AC DELCO all together.
Havent heard anything since. Try to remember and ask next Wednesday when he stops in.

Cool, lmk if you do. But from what you said, it sounds like they are two separate entities? Not the same company with two divisions or something like that?

GM sold off it's parts business (Delphi) a number of years ago. The AC Delco parts are made by various manufacturers (including Delphi). For instance many of the current oil filters are made by Champion Labs (they make the Royal Purple, Mobil 1 and K&N Oil filters).

Ancient History:
The AC of AC-Delco stands for Arthur (some sources claim "Albert") Champion, the same Champion as the spark plug. Champion was his first spark-plug company, from 1904. AC was the second, started with the help of Buick in 1908. Charles Kettering (Inventor of the Kettering Ignition system--points and ignition coil) and Edward Deeds owned Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company--DEL Co. |

I call on new car dealers, used car dealers, independent repair shops and fleets for an ACDelco warehouse distributor.
Delphi does build some of the ACDelco fuel pumps, but not all. A Delphi branded pump is not an OE pump (specifically built to GM specs). Click on the link for "more info" on the RockAuto site. In the case of your '97 - it appears that the Delphi HP10036 is a generic pump (says it's a replacement for the 19179528, 25164521 and/or FG0036 pump) vs the ACDelco FLS1077 that is the direct replacement for the 19179528. The photos of the pumps don't look alike. I would go with the ACD pump, because that pump will have the latest updates built into it based on direct information from the GM engineers that designed it. No aftermarket pump brand has the same access to the GM information. |
