Default Rechroming

My 1970 bumper was rechromed but the chrome was thin so I need it redone. Advanced Plating quoted $900 - $1200  any suggestions preferably in FL.
Thanks
Greg

I can tell you who not to go to in Fla
Plating place in Tallahassee.
They will ruin your part and do nothing to help.
Have you tried FarMac or Space Coast?

The bumper was chromed by the previous owner in CA and chrome is very thin. I haven't had anything chromed here in FL so I wanted to asked for a learned opinion. Where are FarMac and Space Coast?

Thanks
Greg

I had my 70 bumper rechromed by Tri-City Plating in Jan/07. Granted it's in Tennessee, but well worth the shipping. My total cost was $456 for show quality and including round trip shipping. If I had not provided a core it would have been $500 plus $42 one way shipping. Friendly people too. Here is the link: http://www.tricityplating.com/

Ive used TriCity for about 10 yrs and would recommend them too.
But he said he preferred Fla, thats why I recommended the other 2
both of which I have used with good results.

I think a few years ago FarMac was also in Melbourne. I have done business with both Space Coast plating and FarMac. Space Coast is very good but a very long wait time. I had my 67 bumper done for the same reason (chrome was thin and yellowing). The bumper was perfectly straight and no rust. The guy at Space Coast did not beleive me and was reluctant to take the work because of my deadline (3 weeks before the Nationals). Once he saw the bumper and it needed no additional work other than the plating he agreed to do it. I think it was around $450.

I have seen Tri-city's plating, and if you can get one to the door for $542, that is what I would do. I would then turn around and sell the one you have. Just because it is not perfect does not mean it won't suffice for many. You can probably get $300-$350.
Thus only costing you $240 or thereabouts.
That is my .02.

Now some folks hate the Bumper Boyz who are out of Cali, and it might be a hit or miss, but I have bumpers on my '64 that have been on there for 12 years, and they are still fine.
Mind you, they are not perfect, but I would never lose points for them, as they look like original bumpers that are mass produced, and not for an over restored car.

Has anybody used Pauls Chrome Plating in PA. I see them at Carisle and were featured on a show I think Gage's garage.

I had no idea Tri-City plating was so widely known, but I walked through their front door last month--and you should see the back lot full of bumpers. I think I have a picture at work.

I finally decided on...
Hajjar Plating Service
38300 Van Born Road
Wayne, MI 48184
phone: (734) 722-9040

They gave me a rough estimate of 350 per.
I got several referals/ reccomodations before I sent it.
I will let you all know how it turned out.

Paul's Chrome does excellent work. I've had them do several items for me and each item turned out perfectly.

I found out that some chromers dont do pot metal... I have also found that pricing is not consistant. And not everyone does bumpers.

Default Tank size

Some of the shops do not do bumpers, because they don't have tanks big enough for them.

I know of several shops, but they are all in SoCal.

Take care,
