Default Genius at a car show?

Went to a show over the weekend and someone came up to me and said my car didn't have a front bumper. I was stunned with disbelief and took a few seconds to answer. I said I would look for it. Told him he was a real genius.

I would say I bought it that way, but agree that it is a very, very dangerous modification.

You have the rare bumper delete option.

Looks like the factory forgot the trim rings, too.

That's funny.

One of the guys in the Tarheel Tigers Pontiac club had a 67 or 68 Firebird Sprint with the OHC-6. He had it on display at a local car show. A couple of guys were admiring his car, and one looked at the other and made a comment that someone went to a lot of trouble to put a Datsun 240Z engine in there. He was pi**ed.

You get all types Jim!

I was at the Southbury car show probably 15-20 years ago with my 72 WW5 GTO, drove it, not showing and was lucky enough to get a spot right on the road close to the field. When I was done walking around & heading back to the car there were three guys standing next to it with one of them pointing in the driver's window. As I got closer he was explaining that it wasn't a real 455 car because it had A/C, probably not even a real GTO and that "Some ***hole" had just put the decals on to act cool.

I stood there & listened for a little while and he seemed pleased with the added audience. When I'd had enough of his explanation I took out my key and slid it into the door lock - the look on his face was priceless! He then asked if it was a real 455HO and I told him the X in the VIN should have told him that, fired it up & drove away.

those collisions on the production line suck! hurts the value of the car before it even get to the dealer lot.

Beautiful Car!

I have learned that there will always be one or two people at car shows including Pontiac specific shows who are walking encyclopedias when it comes to everyone else's car.
But when I ask them which car here is theirs, I get a story such as its not here because of this or that truth is they haven't invested the time or money it takes to bring a car up to that level.
Thankfully the majority of the folks are always very nice and have very kind words to say!

Took my 71 to the local car show, Car d'Alene, with approximately 400 cars driving around town in a loop. I heard this:
1. Great Chevelle there; Where did you get the custom front bumper work done?
2. Hey, were those Edelbrock heads installed at the factory or did the dealer install them? ( I told him that, as a chain belt kung fu master, I had special pull with the factory).
3. Did you swap out the small block for the big block? ; There were NO big blocks installed with factory air conditioning.( similar to The Bosses "expert" comments).
4. The auto trans install looks as good as the factory install but why would you remove the 4 speed for an auto? According to that " expert", no 455's came from the factory with auto transmissions even though , in reality, ALL 71 455's had auto transmissions.

Actually.... my Chevelle was crashed in the factory.

I'm the original owner, car was built in Oshawa and I was at the dealership when they unloaded it.

The first time we painted the front clip, in around 1990 or so, we found bondo in the front fender behind the front wheel under the original paint.

That's the only explanation I can come up with.

I was at the Widetrackers Dustoff and had a guy climb into the GTO and sit in the driver's seat to see "if it felt like it was a 4600 mile seat".

His buddies ushered him away before I could do him physical harm.
