Screw in rims
Hi All: What's the consensus on screws in rims with slicks?
Like horsepower level, torque, weight of car, 60 times or ever the pressure you run them at. Thanks |

I use Hoosier QTPs with tubes and screwed the tires to the rims, no problems or issues running 13 psi. 1.43 60' times with a 3558# car that runs 10.00.

Thanks guys. We mounted new MT Drag tires (28x10.5x15) yesterday to dry rims that were prepped for the bead and will see what happens. No screws yet. Car is only doing 1.49 60 ft with this converter. Car weights at least 3720. Ran a 10.30 at 132 mph first time out on new combo.
First time out we had the pressure at 18 psi with no issues, then tried 15 psi and no issues. This was before these new slicks. |

Were running M.T. E.T. Drag tires. They are Bias tires. Were using a 10" rim. Tire size is 28x10.5x15 They say not to run a tire on a rim that is more or less than 1" larger than tire. so were ok there. |

I would think tubes = screws always. If they slip with tubes it could be ugly. Did ya mark the tire and rim to see if they're slipping? You're leaving pretty hard. I'd add screws.

I did mark the tires first time out and they moved maybe 3/4" and never moved after that. Track was prepped very well as they had some very fast cars that day. It dead hooked off the line every pass. We did 5 passes with no other issue except alternator belt flipping. (Pulley alignment). Thanks

At those tire pressures I’d try spraying the bead with hi tack gasket spray before going to screws.
We run our radials at about those pressures and use the hi tack with no issues. |

Thanks. Did the tire move any on first time out with the hi tack? We want to try the tires and rims dry to see what will happen. I did Somewhat of a knurl on the otter lip area of the rim so the tire bites to the rim better. If doesn't work will try the HI Tack method. |
