Default Converter v gears

I've been thinking about my combination and goals. It is a 71 Lemans convertible and is not a race car. I want the most fun/ quickest combination keeping the stock width tires, stock weight, etc.

Specifically I am wanting to know what Converter to put in the TH350 and what rear gear for the 8.2" pontiac rear. While the car won't see any speeds over 85mph, I will cruise it sometimes on the highway.

Car will have very slightly warmed over 400 ci engine. Right now I don't want to go to an overdrive transmission, but it could be in the cards someday.

Is it better to use lower gears or a looser converter for something like that?

I believe it has 2.73 gears in it now, but I have the chance to pick up a 3.23 rear end fairly cheap. Thinking I might be better off to pass on that and just put a different converter in my TH350.

Thoughts?

I would do the rear swap which will make for better performance all the time, not just at launch like with a looser converter.
Your TB 350 converter stalls between 1800 and 2200 which should still be good for a as you state warmed over 400.
