How did Chrysler Corp. cars get the nickname "Mopar"?

For that matter, what does the "AC" stand for in "AC spark plugs"?

Correct, Quick Silver was referring to the name and affiliation with Ford, of which Ford hasn't used since the 70's due to a lawsuit by Autolite.

However it's all one in the same, and people will forever relate to Autolite as Ford products despite Ford trying to distance themselves from it.

Yes. I have worked on several WWII and Korean War era trucks, had Auto-Lite Generators and Voltage Regulators. Nothing FORD about them.

AC spark plugs got their AC from Albert Champion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Champion_(cyclist)

MOPAR came from Chrysler's name for their parts division: MOtor PArts.

(When a person has worked on cars since the late 1950's they learn alot of trivia along the way.)

I had NO idea about this!?
Neat!
I also had no idea that "AC Delco" and Champion plugs have the same lineage!

YOU had no idea? How do you think I feel?

I posed the original questions 'cause I thought the answer to one of them was tangentally relevant to the topic. And then 68GTO421 goes and bursts my bubble 'cause it turns out I was wrong, and have been for forty years.

I'm sure that when I was in Trade School, one of my instructors told me that "Mopar" came from Chrysler using "MotorCRAFT Parts"; and that's not right. "Motor (without the "craft" Parts is correct.

You were just confused on that. It was AMC, not Mopar, that used some of everyone elses parts.
