i have a question about what the correct timing gun is to use with my ignition. i have the MSD 6AL ignition, MSD pro billet distributor and an MSD blaster 2 coil. i have been told that you can only use the old school timing light. i'm not sure what to call it, but it does not have a digital display. my buddy wants to use his timing light with a digital display to check the total timing, but i've been told you can't use this timing light with an MSD ignition. can somebody tell me which light is the right one to use?
TIA for your replies. 97 Trans Am WS6 Best ET: 12.13 Best MPH 114.6 74 Formula 455 Best ET: 12.02 Best MPH: 112 |

If your timing light picks up on the spark plug, it wont matter one bit. If on the other hand, your light uses the older coil pickup (ie points) to trigger, than yea it wont work with the MSD. Any light that has a + and - lead and a clip that clamps over the pulg wire will work no matter what type of ignition is firing the plug.

to make sure i heard you correctly...the light with the digital display will work as long as it has a pos. and neg. lead, and a clip that goes over the wire?

You are correct. Digital display, timing delay knob, does not matter. With power leads and a spark plug pickup, your good to go.
