i saw a 63 catalina advertised the other day. the ad read factory 4-spd with 389 2x4bbl engine, ventura bucket seat interior. wasn't the 421 the only engine offered in these cars with 2x4's? btw the price was 11,900, which i thought was kinda high for a car with no hubcaps.mike

the 421 SD cars were the only factory 2-4 cars,That price might not be bad if the car is restored and a 4 speed.Tom

The car could have a 389SD also. More than likely it has an aftermarket 2-4bbl intake installed. 4-speed cars are getting few and
far between.

The SD 389 was produced from 1960-63 it is
believe it or not more common than the 421.
The 421 just gets more fanfair. Nascar racers still ran the 389's even after the 421's were out. The 421's were more popular with the NHRA racers. Remember that the 421's were just bored/stroked 389's at the start. The big difference is the 3.25 main's on the crank. The reason for the big mains is another story.
