Gas vent
So my 70 gto came with a gas tank that has the nipple by the filler and this vent tube hooks to it. that the grommet goes in a hole in the trunk. My gas cap is non vented. The rubber hose I can blow through by itself but the metal loop is completely plugged,,,no air blowing or sucking. Obviously I would think that this loop is supposed to let air flow both ways? Doesn't supposed to take a certain amount of pressure? I haven't tried to run a piece of wire through it yet.

Yes, run some 12 ga solid core wire thru it.
It needs to be open.

The vent should mount in the Trunk (the loop portion) close to the trunk lock.
The vent should be clear of crap and once installed will allow sufficient air into the tank to allow normal fuel flow from the fuel tank. The crimped orifice would be the place to insert the 12 gage wire and then have it travel thru the whole tube and exit out the end that will have a new piece of fuel line hose attaching it to the fuel tank nipple. Clear any obstruction before reinstalling the vent tube on the vehicle. Tom V.

Clearing the clog was a no go. I even tried like a .025 -.030 stiff wire and it would stop at the crimps. Tried 120 psi of air pressure. WD-40 would not flow through it. Found 70 vent tube kit on Ames and ordered it. For one thing Im surprised my car didnt die out on a 5300 rpms pulls from not being vented and not getting air into the gas tank. Also even when the vent tube is new Im surprised that small tube can flow enough air...especially at the crimped spot,,,cant be much more than a 1/8th" hole in the middle. The crimp is supposed to let it breath without letting fuel slosh out. I was debating to just take 1/4" steel tube and bend my own without the crimp.

Your tank is still vented, even if that loop is totally closed off.
There is a 2nd, much larger vent, at the front passenger's side of the gas tank.
It's a piece of 3/8" hose with a foam 'filter' inserted into it to keep the road junk out. It comes forward off the top of the tank and then turns up and is secured by a metal strap that is bent over it to hold it in place. |
