Default Friend bought 1970 GTO JUDGE in 1974 Now Ugh

Jim Miller who built the round round Pontiacs bought a 1970 GTO JUDGE from Fred Davisson in 1974. Fred had just bought a 1974 SD TA Blue like mine new. So he needed money I guess. Oh by the way the price was $1400.00 yes no bs. What Jim got was a Silver JUDGE,black interior,with the option,yes, RA IV,4SPD,4.33 Gears Fred had raced it a little. Jim sold the car. Just telling me today he'gets a headache ' just thinking what it's worth now!

I feel the same way about the survivor, all original 1969 Charger R/T (B5 blue/white) I sold back in '93.

In the late 70s you could be a built 60s vette for $800 $900 no one wanted them. I love looking back at all the old news paper clippings of cars for sale . The oil embargo was on and you had odd and even days you could get gas .
A Datsun B210 was what people were looking at buying not RAM AIR cars that was what kids were picking up CHEAP as dirt. My brother was in. High school and I remember he had a 69 mustang it was kinda the roughnecks that had muscle cars still the hood kids had regular cars at that point. At least that how I remember it .
Those are good days looking back but there were a lot of muscle cars being repossessed at the time, 80s were rough I remember rear companies going under and reliant K cars etc. Young guys dint remember all this stuff . People thought these muscle cars were worth nothing.

I don't remember any $800 Vettes, but I do remember cheap muscle. My dad had a dealer's license in the 1970s and would buy cars at auction. Dad bought a fairly nice Ford Falcon Sprint w/ a 260 3-spd for a little less than $200. That was the first car I drove after I got my driver's license. The first car I bought with my own money was purchased around Christmas of 1973. It was a 1968 Torino GT convertible with a 390 4-spd, cost me a grand sum of a little over $300. It had less than 100K miles on it, and the top was good.

Between 1973 and 1980, I owned the following cars:
- A 1966 Cyclone GT convertible w/390 automatic. It was actually a Indy Pace car that had been repainted solid, but it still had evidence of the stripes.
- A very nice 1964 Buick Riviera with a dual quad 425, purchased in 1975.
- A 1970 GTX 440 6-pack 4-spd, which I drove less than a month before a 3/4 ton Suburban pulled out in front of me and got T-boned.
- An early 1960s Dodge truck, which was the recipient of the 440 4-spd.
- A custom painted 1967 Firebird 400 4-spd
- A black 1965 Tripower 4-spd GTO
- A 1971 Torino GT w/laser stripes. It had a 351C automatic.
- A 1963 Porshe 356C that somebody started putting one of the early Buick aluminum V8s into.
- An early 1960s Austin Healy 3000 that I put a Chevy 283 and 4-spd into.

And my favorite (laughingly). When I first started college in 1977, I sold everything I had except my 1964 Riviera. My dad went to auction and bought a 1974 AMCMatador X. It was bright orange with large white stripes down the side and a white vinyl top. Dad told me I could drive it for free, probably because he knew just how much I disliked it. We had gone to an auto auction and the Matador came up on the block with low miles, extremely clean, and purring like a kitten. I was shocked when dad raised his hand to open the bid at $250. And I was equally shocked when nobody outbid him for it. He took great pleasure in having my sister and I take turns with it. We called it the Great Pumpkin. My sister would flood it, then call dad to come get her because the car wouldn't crank. He finally sold it.

Corvettes were somewhat more expensive, I almost bought a nice 1968 Vette roadster w/ a 350 4-spd for $1800. I forgot to mention it, but I did buy a heavily customized 1965 Vette Roadster for $200, but at that point it was just for resale. It was a real POS, even driving it home entailed major risk. It didn't even have a top, the convertible hardware was all removed and the guy sold the hardtop to somebody before he sold the car.

Bought my first car at 15, 55 T bird 3 speed had a hard top and rolled and pleated interior for $750 (sold for a grand) a 59 Vette in 1969 for $950 sold for $2200)then at 17 graduating High School a 1970 a brand new SS LS 6 Chevelle from Baldwin/Motion $3835 out the door, phathom blue, cowl induction bench seat M 22 410's only other option was a am radio sold it in 73/4 during gas crisis for $1800 minus the engine (got $1500 for the engine) then a 1 1/2 year later bought a 67 vette coupe 427, for $3000 sold it 2 years later for $6500, and the guy that bought it stored it for 20 years then cashed in! Next one was my 1964 Tripower GTO with 16,000 miles it now has 19K and mostly quarter mile mileage, finally got smart and didn't sell it. I do have old photos , those were the days!

When I got my license my dad bought me a 78 dodge monaco GP off an old indian who was in jail for $75 bucks.

It was hand-rolled tan with a red vinyl roof with tan corduroy interior that "swished" when you sat in it.

It still had a beer case in between the rad for a custom thermo.

I ended up rolling it and I didn't pay my dad back as he was expecting.

I don't miss that car at all...lol

ID:	601741I paid $1200 for my tripower, 4 speed, gauges, console, Safe-T-Track Blue Charcoal/Blue '65 GTO in 1982. 40 years later, I still have it. Never been restored, just repainted (1985) and repaired as needed. Never off the road, always registered. Have had many GTO's, but this one, being a tripower car in colors I love was and is a 'keeper'.
