SR SD 455
So i have finally made a deal on a SR SD 455.
Its in standards bore with rods, crank, pistons, flywheel and even camshaft pushrods and lifters. Engine was Located in New York so I sourced a little help. Chris ( The Boss) put me in contact with Dave Hollister (NYTRAINER). I Really couldn't have made this work without Dave and his son's help and also Peter who i made the deal with and parted with his much loved SD short block. They fixed it to one of Butlers engine cradles down to a pallet and boxed it up. It left New York some 12 days ago and is now in California being packed and shipped to Australia. So I have found the direction I am heading with the car and i guess i am happy to say the least. I can not believe how much help I have got from Americans I have never met and I hope I can repay the favour somehow. |

Glad I could just be a footnote to this great project! Best of luck with the car!

Glad we could help Mate! We also learned a lot from helping you out (SD engines, international shipping and wire transfers too). Peter has quite a stash of good stuff at his "secret" locations (I'll never tell lol) and because of this involvement we made some great Pontiac friends.
Of course the downside of helping you is now we want some large displacement power too. Going to have Richie Hoffman build us something to play with... Mike don't forget, when you receive the crate and empty it, punch some holes in the top and ship us back a koala!

Congratulations Michael. We are all looking forward to seeing her back in original condition some time down the track. The boys and girls at the Pontiac Club here in Perth have been hanging out for an update.

Thanks Jon. Yes its been a challenge but finally got an SD for the car. If you come accross a distributor than yes let me know.
Dave you are starting to get an Aussie accent and that Koala you want me to send comes with a free Kangaroo lol. Might have to try and get the car finished by the 50 year anniversary so it can do the rounds on US soil. I promised Dave and Pete a ride one Day and New Yorks not too far. |

Yes sorry it is points but you can't mistake it with the bigger drive gear and base. Also with the valley pan, timing cover and water pump are these part numbers the same as a standard 455 or unique to the SD.

The distributor is unique to the SD, valley pan, timing cover, water pump are not.
But the grommet in the valley cover is unique to the SD engine. (the PCV went to the valve cover)

Well that's interesting, points dizzy. I would have presumed they used the unitized version.

SD Arrival
Finally the SD has arrived and I collected this week. Was boxed well thanks to Dave Hollister and Peter Koos and one of Butlers Engine Cradles.
My Dad rarely poses for a photo but he stepped into this frame Lol. He is 76 and still a Pontiac Guy with his 79 Driver that he has out and about once a week. So I have a short block minus a few small items. In the coming months I will send to my engine builder and have it torn down for a health check and freshen up. High Mileage now that its travelled From New York to California than onto Australia. Does anyone know if their is a Super Duty 455 part number List as when I tear it down I need to make sure of whats right or wrong. The only real ??? at the moment is the AC Oil Filter Housing Part no. 5579457. Just not sure if it is a replacement or a factory GM Unit. Michael |

Congratulations on the safe arrival of the SD. Also on all your other bits you've been collecting. Continued good luck with the restoration bringing this car back to 'as magazine tested' condition.

SD 455 Distributor 1112218
Finally got a distributor for this motor.
Its a NOS service replacement unit part no. 1112218. I went for this one as it has the early style vaccuum advance unit 463. That completes most of the big items for now that I wanted to get. Heres some pics. Thanks to forum memer Tellyshavilli for this one. Michael |
