Default Tempest 326 questions, H.O. and A.I.R.??

I just picked up a 67 Tempest 4 door hardtop with a 326 2bbl and 2 speed auto trans. It is equipped with the A.I.R. system. The 2bbl was pouring fuel out of the fuel inlet fitting, so I replaced the intake and AFB I had laying around from a 65 Grand Prix.

I have access to a 67 intake and AFB (4244 S) from a 67 Grand Prix that came with A.I.R. and was thinking about rebuilding that AFB. I know it wouldn't be numbers matching, but would be period correct. Some questions...

What differences are there between A.I.R. intakes and carbs, and non-A.I.R. intakes and carbs?

Is the AFB from the 67 going to work well with the 326 (considering the Grand Prix engine is about 75 cubes larger)? Will it be "calibrated" well enough? The 67 service manual lists the same carbs for the 326 HO manual and the 400, but the 326 HO auto has a different part number.

With the 2GC carb, is there a difference between the A.I.R. carb (7027062) and the non-A.I.R. carb (7037062)?

Keeping the A.I.R. system is a preference, as almost everything else on the car appears original.

If you care about originality, fix the original 2bbl. If not I’d replace/remove the 2bbl and AIR system for starters.

Not sure who would possibly care about #s matching on a 67 more door 326 2bbl with smog parts but to each his own I guess.

No help here, but I applaud that you are preserving a rare and cool car. Pretty soon there won't be ANY 4 door or LeMans or Tempests out there.....just a bunch of fake cookie cutter GTO's. Good luck with your project.

The #4245S is somewhat richer calibrated than #4248S and will work fine as a replacement.
Mixture screw setting on 4245S is 1 to 2.5 turns out and for 4248S setting is 2 to 3.5 turns.

A non-A.I.R. 2GC is completely different than an A.I.R. 2GC.

In long term i would restore the original carb and use it.

FWIW

Sounds like it would be cool to see pics of this car, especially underhood.

I would want to do the 67 4244S conversion, and the 67 intake - eventually.
Do you have a proper 4bbl air cleaner for a 67 AIR 4bbl ?
326-HO clone would be a cool feature on a 4door.

For the air cleaner, I'm using the base from a '65 326 HO with the top from the '67 2BBL. It fits, looks original and mounts up to the hot air stove on the driver side head.

I'll work on getting pics. It needs a lot of love.
