Default Electrical plug id

I know this is a long shot. I have an electrical plug unhooked under dash and don't know where it goes. Hangs down by driver side center. Black plug with five terminal slots with end ones empty and grey, yellow , green with black stripe on the three wires to it. This is in my 72 Lemans.

Looking at the 72 Service manual I'm guessing the AM FM Radio

Grey - Lighting
Yellow - Power
Green w/Blk - Speaker

That's what I thought at first. But, my PHS says the car came with an AM radio and 8 track. I found the 8 track plug. As I looked at the manual, it shows a speaker plug going into AM radio, then the radio plug (which shows two wires) plugs into the speaker plug. I don't have a radio, so I'm guessing this five terminal plug with three wires plugs into something else.

Do you have the plug for the AM radio? An AM-FM may possibly be a dealer add on.

Searching my wires, I found the speaker wires go into the 8 track wiring and the three wire plug in question earlier, is wired (stock) into the 8 track wiring. So, that leaves just this three wire plug for the radio. Not sure if anyone has seen this type of wiring plug that would fit a stock AM radio? I'd like to fill the hole with a working AM radio, but if this isn't going to wire up, then I'm either going to just fill the hole with a non working AM radio or after market AM/FM/CD that works.

Try looking in the Service Manual in Sections 15-46 or so, Sections 15-66 or so, and Sections 15-87 or so.

They should show what should be used for the radios and tape players.

I did go through those sections before and they are mostly for front and rear lights and some interior components. My 72 service manual actually shows the radio plugs and describes them, but they don't mention when 8 track is wired into system. Therefore, mine is different from manual at that point.

Thanks Scott for the pic of your harness. It looks like my three wire plug must go into the back of an AM radio then.

johntal, after looking for those schematics and pics you show, I did finally find them in my service manual. Thanks.
