This turned into a great thread on POP decoding! Thank you to all that shared their expertise on the subject, I learned a lot!
Now, can anyone tell me what the number "1" is next to the GG paint code on my '67 POP? I noticed this on Chris' Fathom Blue '67 POP as well. Could this be a Fremont only thing? Dan, do you have the POP for your Fremont '67? If so, does it also show the #1 with the paint code? Grant |

I have no idea on this “1” code in the paint line.
Paint type, metallic, as both above POP are a met. color ?? Finding a Fremont POP for any year including a ‘67 is tough. The thrill of the hunt. Chris.

I caught it on the Fathom Blue 67 also.
Was preliminary -thinking- color code for Pinstripes with just the Fathom example . But that isn't going to work for a Gold car and a Dk Blue car at the same time, unless - 1 was pinstripe delete I think that is probably a Fremont Only line item on that 3rd character with paint code. Buildsheets would be helpful on that item They have a box for Paint Stripe on the sheets |

You don't think white would be a good pinstripe color for those colors?
My 1st thought was for wheel color, so not sure of white wheels.

White stripe on a Gold car could look okay , with other white appointments in the combo.
Whiteline tires or White top/roof or parchment interior. But Black was default stripe on Gold - White was default stripe on Dk Blue - so when we look at it that way , code 1 doesn't really work . Grant's Gold 67 is factory paint (be sure and remember his is GG1 ) it has Black Pinstripes IF those are factory painted stripes on his car then the Code 1 doesn't work for White Stripes see my point ? Highly unlikely someone would request Black Pinstripes on a Dk Blue car. (EE1 ) So if Grant says his Pinstripes are definitely original painted Code1 won't be for Delete stripes or White Stripes and probably not anything about stripes On the Buildsheets - stripe colors are Alpha coded (A for Black , etc) So are wheels , but that doesn't mean they couldn't swap numeric for alpha on the P-o-P Code 1 doesn't work for wheel color either though. GrantGold had Black Steelies ChrisBlue had Rally Ones e d i t - - think i screwed that up on Grant's wheel color he wiped the black spray paint off - and they were Gold ... oops Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 02-06-2021 at 09:40 PM. |

Maybe it simply means... 1 color?
Pretty sure my black stripes are original. My wheels are Seneca Bronze. Nothing makes any sense... yet. |

I believe '1' is for white. '2' is for black.
Edit: This may be wrong, thinking of conv. top colors.

From Eric White's GTO book:
Now how to figure out the numbering? '1' is black or black is standard and '1' is white and '2' is red?

Strange Fremont Build Sheet Location
Here's a few photos of a '67 Fremont build sheet found stuffed into the sunvisor bracket hole.
Maybe this will shed some light on the mystery "1"? |

I'm going to go with "1" just meaning Pinstripes - no color designation tied in -
just "this car had Pinstripes" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next i would go with "1" meaning it was a standard production color. Versus a Spring Color, Special Order color, etc ... Omaha Orange, Tiger Gold, Verdoro Green, Sherwood Green Those might have carried a "2" in that 3rd spot ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last pick would be "1" for Black Stripes would mean the Fathom Blue GTO had special requested Black Stripes to match with the Black Interior. I just don't like the twist of PMD commonly using 1 for White (convertible and vinyl tops) and suddenly switching 1 to Black. Just doesn't feel right at all. Will need more of those 67 Fremont P-o-P's to go any further. And that won't come easy |

Do you have the P.O.P. for that car?
What color was the top?

Color Codes for the sunvisor car were C2AA
White Black Vinyl Top Black Double Pinstripes More amazing than the sheet being in the sunvisor hole, was someone actually spotting it in there and being able to retrieve it intact as well as they did. About like that game 'Operation' - take out wrenched ankle |

1) it was a tap on the shoulder - hey remember we are doing double pinstripes this year . Not single stripe like last 2 years. Box 44 has provision for LW-lower , UP-upper , ST-stripe At face value, it looks like AA is double stripe code. 2) the typeset was Way out of Whack - or entry operator made a boo-boo Box 45 is missing a little bit of area. Being a hubcap car - it "could" have had A6 in that box. (Black - 6") We don't know for sure if the A was there, but missing now from damage, or if the second A in box 44 actually was meant for box 45. Another little mystery deal kind of. I like the cool factor of a double stripe code though . fwiw ------------------------------------------------------------------ Don't know which plant or whose car this "Chassis Only" sheet came from. But it's a Federal YS build going by the Air Cleaner Code , and don't see any provision for AIR type gizmos. So probably not Fremont at minimum. If we use it for possible reference anyway regardless of that- It shows Box 45 Fremont should probably have had A6 in the box. This file will download and explode view very well. The box in bottom left corner is for wheels = A6 This was the only other legible 67 Buildsheet i have. Have one more "partial remnant" for a P-Plant 67 GTO |

Did some searching on the web. Looks like Olds has us beat all to hell.
Their assembly manuals have all the data to decode them. We need some IBM Accessory Codes list for the different years. Not sure how close their (Olds) codes would be to ours. Their POP tags look different. Also their accessory code line has to have 5 digits, zero for not there. (like no PS or PB)
