Sprint data plate?
Someone posted an ad in the Lobby for a '66 Sprint. https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/c...278963601.html I was admiring it and noticed the data plate. I've never seen a paint code like this. What's up with it?

Dang !
Also no Build Plant Code , or Body Build Date Code It is a Fremont Car though Maybe it was an early Pilot-Car (Sprint) , those (pilot's) are the only examples i have encountered without a body build date. Would be an ultra-low VIN , if true. The "paint code" looks sort of like a Fremont P-o-P paint code EE is Fathom Blue (dk.blue met.) By consensus we have presumed the "1" as being a stripe definition (any stripe - any color) The "A" ..... maybe wheel color ? (black) I don't have the chart handy for wheel color on a Fathom Blue car to verify. Good Eye on that Greg |

Basing it on the paint code structure , and location of car (washington state). and the fact that Fremont cars are wacky sometimes |

It's an interesting car for sure. Ok, I see 'EE' being blue, '1' being the stripe...perhaps it had a black painted top at some point for the 'A'? No vinyl top trim though.... The car looks black at first glance but the blue shows in the engine shots. Maybe the top is still black...hard to tell.
Hadn't noticed the other anomalies on the plate until you pointed them out. I think that's a nice car for $6K. Not cheap but you don't see complete Sprints for sale every day and that one looks pretty solid from the few pics shown.

The EE 'should' be suggesting it was a solid paint color top to bottom.
It has been repainted black on the exterior somewhere down the line. I like that its not a Tempest-Custom with the full length side moldings. They removed the interior pictures that were posted on the listing. Checked it out quickly yesterday from the Lobby thread link. Blue Bench Interior The interior had seen a whole lot of continued dampness. Painted portions of metal dash surround were about solid surface rust/discolored. Column shifter was rust color Probably be demonized with corroded electrical connections and bad grounds And smell like an old junkyard car on the inside. Body looks pretty good though E D I T - i called it Fathom Blue earlier (67 color) - it's Nightwatch Blue (EE) in 66 . oops Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 02-26-2021 at 03:40 AM. |

Yeah, I missed that. EE would indicate top and bottom colors. You are probably correct about the dampness issue. Heavy moss on top of that building in the background (and some on the car) hints at a very wet environment for sure.

Interesting tag for sure,
What I don't like is the way the DS images in the first round of ads were intentionally angled to show little to no clear shot of some obvious 1/4 issues. And now the seller has even removed those images. Can only imagine what's left of the floor on this swap rat.

Since I'm local to this car, it came up in my daily coffee & Craigslist browsing routine that I embark upon most mornings. I was very intrigued by it, and I'd be lying if I said the thought of buying it hadn't crossed my mind for a minute or two. Alas, I already have a '66 post car that has made a big enough dent in my savings account. It would be a very cool car when restored though, and it's likely to be a very good candidate for restoration. Despite the rain, cars really don't rust out here, which is somewhat a kept secret. The absence of road salt makes all the difference.

You don’t see many 23307 Sprints, that’s for sure. I was hoping to see a pic of the back seat, to see if it even came with armrests. It’s a straight looking car, though. I like the cool little Pontiac emblem on the door panels of plain Tempests.
