I checked my 2 spare console lights and the metal clip is missing. I cant check on the car because it is all covered and not accessible. On the back of the lens there is a long ear. That is where the metal clip goes. I don't remember how it works or what it looks like. I checked my service manual too but there was nothing listed about the console. Sorry

3 chiefs,... thanks for the reply. The tab you mentioned looks like it might have a use for a spring clip. the the $64 ,000 question is ,"does it or doesn't it"
talked to a friend of mine tonight that has a 77 GP about this. he got so frustrated trying to do his that he had a body shop do it. hope they can remember . this was done 4-5 months ago .The passenger side stays good. drivers side not so.

Can you reach your cell phone back into the front of the console and snap a picture of the good side as a reference?

3 chiefs;..... finally had some time and got to it. Phone idea didn't work for me, but managed to get assembly to stay in place by simply turning and twisting it enough and then inserting bulb. it seems to be a trial and error method. make thanks again for your suggestions. .....
