Default Aegena or Aegean

What is the correct name for the dark blue color of 1968 firebirds? I've seen the color called Aegena and Aegean. I've seen the Pontiac paint guide call it Aegena but that seems like a typo to me. ??? What is an Aegena ???

It’s Aegena. No idea what that means, at least Aegean would be referring to something blue lol

According to Google, Aegena is an apartment complex in San Jose CA and a distant planet with inhabitants called Aegenans.

Awesome color and I always thought it was Aegean as in the sea in the Mediterranean near Greece. Apparently not. Saw the attached in Demauro's book. Beers, any chance you can post a pic of your car?

It’s a repaint by a PO so likely not the best representation, but here it is

The ‘68 FB’s that thews posted, particularly the 2nd one, is looking like a nice Aegena blue to me.

Here’s Jim M’s well-known ‘68 GTO in Aegena Blue, would think this would be a great representation.

This is getting silly - the factory called it Aegean Blue and somewhere a typo slipped in.

Would like that it’s a typo, the name being Aegean makes a whole lot more sense. Pontiac needed to fix its dealer marketing materials then (exterior colors at bottom)

Colors and coordinates were usually female employees .
They probably liked the sound of aegena better.
I do too , but never thought about it much before.

I do think about that Blue Bird Convertible a lot though.

Stunning cars! When I was deciding on a color I had the body shop do this sprayout of 69 Liberty Blue, 70 Atoll Blue, and 68 Aegena Blue. They were off by a mile on the Aegena(lightest color attached), Atoll in the middle

Hmmm. Or... maybe the female employee that named it lived in the Aegena apartment complex or was visiting from the distant planet.

So I reached out to PHS earlier today about the correct spelling of this color, and here is there response:

“No one has ever asked this question before! We've always called the color "Aegean Blue", too!. However, everything that we have in the official Pontiac records call the color "Aegena Blue", which is obviously the correct spelling!

PHS”

I guess none of those women in the color/coordinates section that BVZ mentioned were Greek!

I love this color. I always figured they judt put their own spin on the name. Kind of like Verdoro Green vs. "verdant" green.
