A guy over on the HAMB scored a bunch of old but never used floor mats at the Jefferson swap meet this fall. I asked if he wanted to sell any green ones for my ‘55. That drivers side one fits about perfect as could be expected for a generic aftermarket mat.

After 4 weeks hobbled by a kidney stone, I had one good week where I had to go out of town for work. Of course I picked up covid at the work event, so I've been quarantined and unable to get any car stuff done. That didn't stop me from making a list for my son to do on the Ventura

A rough few weeks and you’re still putting together a proper to-do list for your son, you’re training him right! Nicely done Ken

And even cardboard backed, puts my list to shame

He's feeling frustrated and over his head so I thought a list might help. He's been so reliant on me to make progress on the car, it's good for him to learn on his own for a bit. I am eager to get that thing on the road, though!

It will be a great experience for him, can’t wait to see you two get that out on the road!

I've been anxious to get back to the shop to do some work on the Ventura. The shop teacher said he had an open house for other shop teachers the other day and my to do list got a lot of praise.

Cole and his buddies got the control arms and springs installed earlier in the week so it's mostly down hill from here. We made a lot of good progress tonight and got the front brakes and shocks installed. We also removed the valve covers to find the valve cover gaskets super crispy and broken into pieces. No wonder it was leaking like a sieve. It's been a while since I've seen a bone stock valve train.

I'm a little concerned by the lack of oil sitting in the heads, but it has been sitting for quite a while. I think we'll prime it and see if we can get the top end lubricated before we fire it back up. Next up is the steering/tie rods, brake booster, master cylinder and associated brake lines.

Took my daughter and her friend to their Halloween themed softball tournament about an hour from home. For some reason my daughter didn’t think we would make it in dad’s old car but when I picked up her friend and she said, ‘cool car!’ I guess everything was OK, lol!

Taking advantage of the warmer fall days and doing some painting of the engine parts! Love this silver blue metallic of the 70 Pontiac motor! Pretty cool to see this 400 coming back together, last time I built this motor was back in ‘82!

Took my 62 Catalina to the final Cars and Coffee event for the year. It was also a Halloween event for the little kids. Lots of them in costume and candy being given out all over. About 1500 cars as always. The mix was a little different. Probably about 80% late model muscle cars and performance imports, 20% what we would consider traditional muscle cars and 60's performance machines. There was a beautiful 59 Cadillac convertible and plenty of Chevies and Fords. A little light on Mopars this time. A beautiful early Rivera, a 69 Hugger Orange Camaro SS that caught my attention with a laser straight body and perfect paint. A 64 Comet with a 390 FE and a 4-speed. The list goes on. Catalina got a good deal of attention. When leaving the event, almost everyone runs through several gears on the ramp to the interstate right behind the show grounds. About 100 people just hang out there for the entire event watching the cars leave. Pretty sure many were stunned by this big, full size Pontiac pulling up hard on each gear change and the unique sound of a Pontiac V-8 at 6000 RPM's heading out to the interstate. End of the season for the most part around here.

Drove it, beautiful autumn day. 3,600 miles on it since finishing the 8 year build a year ago.

I drive it year 'round if the streets dry I go. I enjoy driving it on cold winter days more than summer.

came across these cragar ss 50th annv center caps. had to have em, bought the car in 2015.

I'm with you, man. Cold days where it's dry and sunny out are the pinnacle of driving weather. If there's no precipitation, I'd say let 'er roam. Our nice time of year is coming right up here in SoFlo and I'm excited.

Today I got the "winter" Pontiac out of it's corner and put the Firebird in it's place. The winter daily driver is an 08 grand Prix with 151k miles. Still looks good on top but the rust underneath is slowly eating it.

Oil light came on in the Lemans Sport last week. Changed out the oil sending unit, light went out. Love an easy fix.

Took the Bird back to the restoration shop to get a pair of CVF billet hood hinges installed. The brand new OEM styles I bought from a certain supplier let the hood hit me in the head twice and did not seem to close very well. I like the extremely smooth action of the CVFs and the fact they allow a taller hood opening. The mechanical shop will do its complimentary 500 mile oil change. They'll change out the MSD distributor drive gear for the phosphor-bronze one suited to the roller cam, and test the alternate lead for the tachometer feed as well. The fabrication shop will install the full, 4-piece exhaust hanger set. I was surprised the Pypes system only had tailpipe hangers. The rear sway bar is not a suitable resting point for the muffler. Last on the initial list is adjusting the column shifter so the indicator is actually behind the "D" in drive. That will be enough to prep it for the first big trip down to the Circuit of The America's F1 track for a weekend of Trans Am series racing with Peterson Racing and the 3-Dimensional Service TA/2 team.
When I come back, it will be back in for the final trim item fixes.

"change out the MSD distributor drive gear for the phosphor-bronze one suited to the roller cam,"

srmmmm fun stuff, except for the bronze gear, check out the bop poly/composite gear for msd distributors (or stock size). mines been in for years and still looks brand new. iv'e used the bronze prior to the composite and replaced 2 of those as their made to wear of course and we know where the bronze shavings are going.
