Default voodoo 704

I am trying to get my hands on a lunati 10510704. I sent lunati several messages asking about availability and no response. Butler was not familiar with the grind and asked me to send them the specs. Anyone on here have a lead on one of these?

I rried for almost 2 years to find a 704 but no luck. I finally settled for the 703. I believe the 703 will work fine in my 428. Below are the specs I got off the Lunati site.

Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam. High performance street/strip cam for 350 c.i. motors. Excellent cam for 400- 455 c.i. touring type vehicles with 9:1-9:5 compression ratio. Use 2200-2400 RPM stall converter with 3.23-3.42 rear gears. Very noticeable idle quality. ;Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276 ;Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 227/233 ;Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .489/.504 ;LSA/ICL: 110/106 ;Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd ;RPM Range: 1600-5800 ;

Suggestion, call Tim Goolsby ( ext. 102) at Bullet Racing Cams and see if they have any cam cores on hand. He can custom grind a Harold Brookshire designed UltraDyne lobe.
It won't be quite as aggressive as Harold's Voodoo lobes. But with similar .050" duration if desired.
Tim can match the exhaust lobe and the desired LSA to your needs.

Example UltraDyne lobe H31
280 at .006
232 at .050
.3334 lobe lift
0.500" lift w/1.5

Or something similar

I actually prefer the Bullets Steve mentioned over the voodoos, mostly because you can run 1.65 rockers on them with better results than the voodoo. The extra exhaust lift on the Voodoo’s does not seem to help on power. With Harlen Sharp 1.65s and the series Steve listed the valve lift is almost .570”, and have the same intensity as the voodoo from .006” tappet to .050”, with the same velocity off the seat. Example is the 704’s intake is 281* @ .006” and 233* at .050”. Bullet has them 280*@.006” and 232*@.050”, then 283*@.006” and 235*@.050”, with larger exhaust profile to match. I think the smallest one has 230* @.050” and the largest is in the mid 240s* at .050”, all with .3334” lobe lift. The Voodoo have slightly more dwell over the nose and carry some more assymetric’s further up into the profile.

Jegs is probably the best place to ORDER a Lunati Voodoo. Lunati is owned by the same investment group as compcams, and are all ground now at Compcams. Jegs does not charge for back ordered parts until the order gets filled, and has a lot of buying power with Comp. FWIW, the 704 has showed up on Ebay via Jegs, they have had some in stock over the last year, usually as cam and lifter kits.

It’s not like there’s no other cam out there that will do all the same thing. Just buy what’s available of similar specs.

X3 on Tim at Bullet, good guy to work with and the turnaround time isn’t very long. Totally viable alternative to your 704 quest and you might even be happier in the long run.

If interested in more about Harold Brookshire lobes read post number 45 in its entirety here:

https://www.chevelles.com/threads/fo...1099020/page-3

If you take the time to look at the provided link within, note the Harold Brookshire designed hyd flat tappet lobe number H2333383 at Howards Cams

Seat duration 279
.020 257
.050 233
.200 147
lobe lift 0.3380
.507" lift w/1.5

Looks very similar to the Voodoo 704 intake lobe.

( Side note, Tim Goolsby at Bullet Racing Cams worked with Harold Brookshire at UltraDyne for 21 years )

I used the the 703 & 704 cam a few times and had great results..
Since then Holley bought Lunati and the quality of the cam cores became questionable.
We broke one in on the dyno properly and it failed on the dyno.
Too bad they were great lobes designed by a true Pontiac enthusiast. But will not buy another again.

What have you went to for cams since those are no longer an option? Have you went to rollers? The particular cam core that is used to make the 704 seems to be hard for cam grinders to come up with, there are not many grinds like it that are available anywhere. The task of finding a comparable grind is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

All the cores for pretty much all cams come from the same place..CWC… Some of the companies (not many) use a little higher quality proferall+ core instead of Proferall. Most the grinds are basic cores, the only core I have ran into that was different on the cams I have done is the Melling SPC-8, and some Bullets, that have slightly wider lobes on the basic proferall core.. Lunati cams are pretty much all ground in house at Compcams or one of Comps’s subcontractors. Lunati HFT Lifters that are sold with their cam kits have a LOT of issues.

From what I understand the Brookshire profiles the Steve C listed that Howard’s has are some of the very very last HFT’s that Harold designed for Custom camshaft Co, newer designs than the Lunati Voodoo’s. His most advance work on HFT’s.

Yes cam core shortage going on now so make selection more difficult.

Try Summit or Jegs. I bought mine a few years ago.

I periodically do search’s on summit for parts. At summit racing, over the last year, the word “Lunati” usually results in less 10 search results! Seems like the investor group that bought Lunati pretty much lit the place on fire and walked away.

As pointed out the Howards Cams lobe list includes the Harold Brookshire designs from when he was at Custom Camshaft Company in the mid/late 2000s. Howards Cams acquired Custom Camshaft Co. (CCC) from its parent company, Arrington Manufacturing.

Jay is correct these would be Harold's last available designs. The Lunati Voodoo's predate his time at CCC.

If one really wanted to pursue a cam with these 'Brookshire' lobes call Howards and see if Ben Herheim is still around. Ask about their HYDRAULIC FLAT TAPPET CUSTOM GRIND Part number 419991 For Pontiac application.

However keep in mind the statement made within my link provided previously...

"... be advised, when/if you call Howards cams to order a custom cam with Harold's lobes you have picked out, be certain and sure about what you want, because do NOT expect any of those guys there to have any enthusiasm for, nor deep knowledge of Harold's lobe designs."

That and you are very limited in the selection of these Brookshire lobes. Example if for hyd flat tappet, you will not get the 8 degree split between the intake and exhaust as on the Voodoo 704 cam. Not that it's necessary !

This suggestion is not based on personal experience and is offered for general interest only. As mentioned, I deal with Bullet Racing Cams and use UltraDyne lobes.

Also the issue with the availability of cam cores.
