Default Need Advise on a Michigan to Pennsylvania title transfer

I recently sold a vehicle to a person in PA and I'm in MI. I gave him a signed green Michigan title in my name and a bill of sale. The bill of sale was notorized. Michigan titles do not require notorizing. He called me today and said I screwed nim and he cant register the vehicle unless I provide him with with a document that shows I paid taxes on the vehicle when I bought it. I did pay tax and you cant get a title in Michigan without paying tax unless you are related to the buyer. I dont have any way to prove this and is he scamming me somehow. Not sure what to do.

Sounds kind of fishy as like you say...You cannot get a title in your state without paying the tax on the vehicle! Besides what you pay in Michigan state tax is none of Pennsylvania's business & I doubt they actually care.

God Bless

Lightbulb Taxes - Liens - Encumberances

When you purchase a vehicle - you should
require the Bill Of Sale to include:

“ Vehicle is free of all liens & encumbrances “.
This includes taxes for practical purposes
but you can also include “ taxes “.

Some states will require the Buyer to pay
any outstanding taxes that show up during
a title search before a vehicle can be re-titled
or re-registered by the Buyer.

That could be what is going on here.

Assuming your Buyer did not request
and you did not supply a Bill Of Sale
containing that nomenclature ….

They are SOL.
