Black Friday Special VS Turbo
I'm looking to purchase a single turbo for a , 462, standard E heads, 9:1, roller turbo cam, forged internals, log style SS headers, FI, pump gas(or E-85 if I can find a stable source) in a 3800lb 76 T/A. 6500 red line. 10.0 ET power but mostly a street car. It's going for $899
Is the turbo below too big? I see others mention in other posts using other turbos but don't always mention the actual turbo specs. Thanks https://turbo4less.com/product/vsr-8...k-friday-deal/

You need a price in the post Mo. You have 1100 posts and should know the rules.

Hi Tom, sorry for the confusion, I'm not selling, looking to possibly buy for a single turbo deal. VS is running a "sale" and I saw this one posted. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
Thanks I edited the original post. Thanks

My basement is bigger than their company location, apparently according to Google Maps.
That being said, obviously off shore Chinese stuff. I would look at Richard Holdeners Website and see if he has ever dynoed any of the VSR 88mm turbos in the past. The prices are twice what he recommends for a good street turbo for your intended application. Richard has dynoed the VS against a BW 470 and both performed as expected. Used his 4.8 LS test mule motor. Smaller turbos, of course. T4. The turbo in question has a billet impeller and they tend to be more expensive than the standard BW turbo. The S470 that I’ve seen are around $550 To $750 range depending, so I think it’s a reasonable price. Wondering how that hot side A/R would spool on my combo.
Thanks

I have an s488 1.32 a/r with a 98mm turbine wheel on my 462. Mine spools a bit slow with a tight converter and a 3.08 gear. I am overall happy with the turbo but I do have a borg warner turbine and center section with a billet aftermarket compressor wheel. I dont know of the quality of the unit you posted.

It is a flip of the coin on whether the engine will like it or not.
I have purchased turbos in the S-400 series with prices all over the place. You are going to run a 455 turbo, this video might be of some help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hWgN-5ZLa8 Tom V.

I’m no turbo guru but I believe this one may spool faster and be more responsive on a 462. It’s a T4 instead of a T6 so it’s probably a bit easier to package as well. 1.24ar vs a 1.58ar.

Thinking of whether to go T4 or T6 I'd go T6. Backpressure will climb pretty quick. My $.02. |

I’d say take a look at some of the old info at PZ as well, in the forced induction/ turbo builds forum. Im not over there pretty much anymore, but still some good info on there . I run a turbonetics t88 thumper ball bearing (old old turbo) on a factory (but we’ll prepped) 2 bolt 455 block stock crank solid lifter cam and iron smog heads and get in the 9s fairly easily in fact I shift at 5600 rpm . I Have built the same set up with an s475 and run the same or better times. Too big is always better than too small. Heat is the enemy and a fat lazy tune is better than the alternative. The goal should be to make it live and sneak up on the tune, but even then stay fat and lazy for longevity. Turbos like to be loaded. So less gear multiplication is better. To a point.

Thanks for the feedback and links to the sites and videos. I'm thinking the bigger A/R may work out since the car will have a bunch of torque down low. Backpressure was a common theme with those 4.8-6.0 motors and the smaller hot side A/R. That said it is a big turbo and packaging will be interesting for sure.
