Default how to install outer sheet metal panels

Is there a trick to installing the hockey stick shaped sheet metal back onto the windshield post (think it might be called the A pillar)? Car is a 1967 GTO.

Are you talking about the windshield pillars? The exterior peels away once the screws are removed.

Yes. They are extremely tight fitting and will not go back on without bending the upper tab out of the way...thus it might snap off in doing so. Do they need to be forced on with a rubber hammer or something? Thinking of using seam sealer as a lubricant. Any techniques would be greatly appreciated before I screw them up!

Hmmm...I don't see those upper tabs in your photo Ben.

The upper tabs are there. I attached photos of those on my 67 LeMans.

Yes, they are tight since they hug the pillar. After removing the drip molding, windshield, windshield reveal molding clips, roof rail, pillar chrome, old seal sealer & tab screws, you're ready to start. The piece needs to be slid down somewhat in order to clear the roof rail drip structure so start at the bottom. If recollection serves, I worked the piece from the outside over the pillar structure, expanding it without deformation and sliding the hugging edge over the pillar a little at a time. I then worked the inside up and moved the piece down so I could clear the roof rail drip structure. Once everything is low enough, I worked the piece from the outside till it comes off. The piece twists a little but springs back after removal.

Got them on by pounding them with the palm of my hand. The tabs did need to be bent out of the way and so did the upper couple inches of the flanged sheet metal piece that hugs the pillar under the upper portion of the windshield. Bent it back into place after installing with no damage.

Thanks to all who responded!

Did these strips get seam sealer along the edges for water proofing?
