It IS a very nice original appearing car and if it spent it's life garaged in Oregon...that's a good thing....it SHOULD be decent underneath...
The seat belts tell us it's Van Nuys built car, which makes sense, being on the west coast. Notice the sloppily applied rear wheel spoiler pin striping?....I have an original paint car and one side is even WORSE. All things considered,.....the 45K Buy it Now is really optimistic.(probably not if it were a black S/E) If we were to put this one in the "shark tank"....here's MY lunch..... The screw on body side moldings slice the car in half. Rusty replacement master cyl. and water pump, red heater hoses and stop sign radiator cap are NOT part of a professional detail job on a car of this caliber. The black chicken mats don't work in this particular car and the cheap Earl Swaab tires tell us that somebody bought the least expensive tires they could find..... I still like the car....it just needs detailng.

I agree on the details. the floor mats can be bought, other details can be corrected. put some re-pop polyglass radials on it & get rid of the wheel weights. add some pictures of the underside & the other photo's us purists go crazy over.
For some reason the wheels still look to me like they have been painted solar gold? I'm not picking on it either, its awesome to see cars like this survive for 36 years & look this great. I could see it being a 25-30K car detailed correctly, but that's about it IMO.

I've seen (back then) the gold WS6 wheels have a slight variance in the color, much like some of the gold cars did. Those look very close to what mine looked like, but at my age my memory is pretty shot.
Very nice looking car! |

Reminder: being a west coast - Van Nuys, CA - build; it was a water based paint job which was problematic and a major warranty issue for the Y88s, etc. when new...so, the paint... Ask me how I know. IMO - Norwood Y88s color has more "pop." Not to take away from this car I've no skin in the game and/or knowledge of this particular car offered. |

y-88
Just finishing up our y-88. getting ready for bandit run 2014. My son and I did a cosmetic restoration on it this past winter. It only has 48,000 on it. Body was in great shape with original paint and only needing minor work before refinishing it.

I just picked up a box of lit, nice stuff all through the 70's, there was a pic of a red bird and a y88 for a dealer album. It sold fast. It shows a nice pic of a y88. I have the same pic in my dealer album. My y88just needs new seat cover to make the interior fresh. I picked up a roll of nos camel Lombardy. I have 6.75 yds. There may be some left

I just bought a sweet set of gold rally's, correct code for 1978 ans the rings and caps are perfect, but check this out, I did the auto shows for 25 years and I met a guy that used to do the Pontiac shows, he had a custom set of wheel caps that GM made for a black and gold car, the GM brass came in and didn't like the red arrows, so the vendor made 6 custom caps, I just bought 4 for my rally's, they are actually for a wire wheel. I'll throw a couple of pics up,
What pix do you want the car?

The below is worth exactly what you have paid for it. I thought I would pass it along, but everyone should do their own due diligence...
I've been quietly and intermittently looking for a Y88 and the ebay car discussed above is back on the bay and caught my eye. http://www.ebay.com/itm/151322262051...torefresh=true I talked to the seller and had a deal struck subject to inspection. He spoke very well of the car, gladly agreed to an inspection, and gave me the name of the mechanic that rehabbed the car. I spoke to the mechanic and he said he did a complete brake job including the master cylinder, tuned it up, oil, replaced the AC compressor and converted it to R134, and did a few other minor things. The seller brought the car back a week or so later with fuel problems. The mechanic dropped the tank and boiled it, replaced the sending unit and rubber hoses, and rebuilt the carb. The mechanic spoke highly of the car. I was getting excited.... I had the car inspected today and the wheels fell off. The brake warning light was on and would not go off, the brake pedal was very soft, the idle quality was poor, the rear tires were old and had little tread, the clutch would barely engage to the point that it was hard to get the car moving forward, the paint on one head and the intake was noticeably different than the block and other head, and the door keeper on the drivers side was broken and the door would not stay open. On a positive note, he said the interior looked new, the exterior was in great condition with just a few blemishes, and the title looked good. Regarding the paint, he said it all looked original, but the hood and rear fender seemed to be slightly off color. The hunt continues...I will appreciate any leads or tips. |

I picked up 3 more of the GM photo of a Y88 and a Red Bird. I think it was to go into the dealer album when the Sky bird was going away. Pm me if any interest in one. They are in color.

Paints in the late 70's were poor at best. My 79 was original throughout but you would never know it to look at it!
The nose, fender, door & quarter were all different shades. Not sure how they did that but....

Incredible survivor Y88 for reference
Let me know if you need detailed pics of specific areas. Very original car with only 71000 KM or 44000 miles. Battery, stereo, a/c update, rad and partial exhaust seem to be the only items replaced. Tires are new and rims have been fluffed. Original gold tint on t tops isn't very evident in pics but they're definitely gold tint. Its available for sale as well.
