Paint code
Looking at a 65 GTO and when I look at the data plate on the paint part I see the code WW which is blue slate but I'm confused because it has an A with the paint code so it looks like this Paint WW A can someone help.

Yes. The rims would have been black. On some colors the rim were painted a complimentary color to the body. This also depended on the hubcap ordered.

I'm not as familiar with '65 as I am for '64.
The coding of the wheel color may have depended on the Assembly Plant where built. To expand on what 1_Wild_Cat posted, ALL builds that included a Wheel Cover option got the Black Wheels (Wheel Color Code A). If no Wheel Cover option was selected, the car was built with a complementary wheel color because part of the wheel showed with the standard content Hub Caps (referred to as dog dish caps by many hobbyists). Often the complementary wheel color was the same as the body color, I'm not really sure if there was an exception or if the non-Black wheel colors were only used when matched to the body color. I do not know what wheel color was complementary for a Bluemist Slate Polychromate (metallic) body color build that did not get a Wheel Cover option (or the optional Rally I wheels). It may have been Black so you would need to see the PHS to know if any Wheel Cover option was included in the build or if it got the Black Wheels because that was specified with Bluemist Slate body color and Hub Caps. |

I checked the paint charts at autocolorlibrary.com. For whatever reason the chart for 1964 does not include wheel colors but the one for 1965 does. https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/pag...HorizontalTab3

For 1965 wheel colors.
The stock 14x6 steel wheels were paint black for any of the optional full wheel disc. When no optional disc were ordered, the car came with Standard caps (dog dish). There were a few select colors offered on the steel wheels for certain body colors as noted by the above posts. Here is a Ditzler chart showing what Stuart shows and a Teal Turquoise ‘65 with Teal painted wheels.

I may add the wheels were painted in a enamel. not the lacquer the car body was painted in.
also only the face of the wheel was painted with color |
