Default A Real use for Robo Grips?

A few years back I'd bought a two piece set of RoboGrips at a yardsale for $5.

Sometimes while working on a project I will need a plier or channel lock or something.
I look into the tool box and there they are, the Robogrips.
I say "Ok RoboGrips; Now is your big chance..."
And they fail every time.

I do find them useful for twisting hard wire when my hands are cold but that's about all.
How about you?

Not sure I know what they are?
Have a pic?
(evidently I don't own a pair? )

They were a sort of gimmick tool sold at Sears, they were self adjusting pliers.

Is that the Craftsman block automatic "channel locks" ?

If so, I have a set, and I have the exact same experience ... can't throw them out for some reason, but every time I try to use them they suck.

Update: Yep, that's the ones ... think I'll throw them out today

Agree with the Sears "channel locks" that do not work. A friend bought a tool when they came out.

Do not own the tool. Real Channel Locks have never let me down.

Someone gave me a pair somewhere along the line. They work for some stuff, lighter duty. The problem seems to be that no matter how much you squeeze the handles, the "grips" will only grip so tight, presumably based on the automatic adjustment aspect.

I've had all my channelocks for 40+ yrs. I'm old school for most tools, they work and work. Now battery tools they do help.
As far as use of robo grips, not sure.

Ah, yes.
Remember them, think someone I knew had a set. Did not work. Kept slipping when tried to 'grip' anything. Best set of 'channel locks' I had worked great. Were called water pump pliers. Can't think of the name of it, came with some Williams tools I got.

I have a set in my tool box, probably haven’t used them in years. When I need “channel locks”, I use my “channel locks”.

Channel lock is a brand.
Channel lock makes a variety of plier tools.

People always say:
Channel locks
Formica
Bandaid
Skilsaw
Sawsall

All brands

I use them with the rubber covers that came with them to take the part of the faucet off with the screen So I can clean it other than that I don’t think I’ve ever used them for anything else and I got a bunch of them from somewhere

They’d be good for moving hot charcoal around in the Webber.

Their primary use is to take a hex head bolt and turn it into a smooth round pin that can't be removed without a torch! But like most of you, I have the 2 piece set in my toolbox. Jr. bolt rounder and Daddy bolt rounder.
