The wreck was pre-restoration. IIRC, Shawn posted the wreck was about an 80 MPH collision. The car was torn down, restored and then went on to be an ISCA Grand Champion in the mid 80s.

Yes I remember these pictures as I have copies of them as well. But to answer your question as to what happened or why the wreck, Mike told me that he was driving on Bay Area Blvd near where he worked (Himont) and a car from pulled out in front of him as he was going through an intersection. I don't recall how fast he said he was going?

The Brewster Green SD is currently owned by Peter Lima of FL. We spoke to him when the car went across Mecom Auction in Dallas. Mike, Myself and Dr Joe Templeton were there to see it. Dr Joe is who Mike bought he car from in Eldorado, AR

I met Joe at the PSN shortly after I bought my red car. He walked over to where I was parked and talked about SD's. At the time I had no idea he had sold Mike the car. He's quite a character. What cars does he own these days? |

Dr Joe called me today and told me he is need of getting rid of alot of his cars and parts, he has alot! i know he has a 69 GTO RAIV, 74 SD, two GTA's, Grand National, and a hoard of parts. Yes indeed he is a character!!! He did love Mike! Everytime he would see Mike he would always say how Mike stole that green SD from him!! LOL

Apparently you know the guy! He seemed to be very arrogant just as a first impression. He wanted more infromation out of us that what he was willing to give us. He also must have several other SD's in his possession so he says.

Well first and foremost the car is nowhere near where it was when Mike owned the car. It was dirty in the engine bayand under carriage, the nose paint was cracked, scratch on the roof passenger side, there were changes to the car that were not correct (two speaker package tray) the exhaust was not correct. Radio was aftermarket. It has not been taken care of thats for sure!!!

Pete Lima is the very opposite of Mike Pergande.

Shawn is right. The car has not been cared for since it left Mike's possession.
Matter of fact, Lima has it up for auction at MECUM Kissimee. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...63#post5104663 |

I remember hearing the, pre-restoration, 80mph crash story back in the '80s when the car was on the local show circuit and wondered how a hit traveling at that speed would allow for a rebuildable TA. Having parted out some TAs that had been slow speed accidents; which every panel - including twisted seat backs and floor pans - were damaged; it seemed nearly impossible a high speed wreck survivor would look this good at the roof, quarters, etc. Also reminded of same when viewing this later model '79 Crash Test damage vs Mikes' Pre-Resto photos makes me wonder if it was a local urban legend? I don't know, nor does it matter at this point. http://youtu.be/s6st76rRopE What does matter really, for me, is Mike in fact is a legend. Mike and his Pontiac's live on, in the various publications, articles and photos in automotive library's and history. |

Was anyone there at Kiss to physically give this car a visual evaluation ?
82 is a funny number Like it needs 20+ of former glory re-applied or something ? |

Ironically, back at the fall Mecum Dallas auction, Mike Pergande and his brother Shawn were there to see the car.
Shawn may reply and comment as to the condition at that time. |

I didn't take any pics of the car but I did give it a once over. Looked pretty nice to me. It was very dusty. There was a lot of winds blowing and all the cars got covered in dust.
