Default Big 66 shifter ID

I have a factory Muncie 4 speed out of a 1966 Grand Prix and I am 99% certain that the shifter unit is original to the transmission. Hurst is embossed on the shifter handle. How can I determine if this is an original factory shifter unit (made by Muncie I assume) or a Hurst shifter unit. The unit does not have the bolt stops. one usually finds on the Hurst shifter units.

If it is a Muncie shifter unit would I be wise to swap it for a Hurst unit - and if so, which Hurst unit would be a direct replacement? Thanks

Does it have 3139 stamped on the base of the handle?

I will check on that this weekend. Do not recall seeing a number of the handle base but I wasn't looking for it at the time. Will probably send the shifter to Pete Serio for cleaning and repair before putting it in the car.

Stevep

The chrome handle does indeed have 3139 stamped on the base. What does this signify?

It means that it is a correct 1965-1966 Pontiac B body shifter
