69 GTO TVS Setup
Attached here is a picture of the TVS switch I've had (never installed). The port on the bottom says VT. Right side top CR, right side bottom DA. Left side top-CR, left side middle-CA, left side bottom-MT. I am assuming left side middle means manual transmission and the bottom (very bottom port) is manifold or ported vacuum source. Once I get this I hope to quit bothering everyone about this.

Late 1967 and 1968 Pontiac V8īs w/AT uses a dual vacuum advance/retard unit.
This never worked well so Pontiac modified this system during service. The 1967-68 TVS unit were used well into 1969 production and on these cars the two retard connectons DR (Distributor Retard) and CR (Carburetor Retard) was plugged, and only the CA (Carburetor Advance), DA (Distributor Advance) and MT (Manifold Vacuum Source) was used. Later production 1969 vehicles got a TVS with 3 connections for these hoses. |

Kenth ... do you know if there is a ported vacuum source on the 704 carbs?

Kenth,
Thank you for all of the information you have given me on vacuum advance and the TVS system. Also a thank you to OG68 for the diagram on the TVS setup. After reading through all the information you sent me on vacuum advance and the TVS I am currently leaning to not putting it on my GTO. I do have the proper plug with the 3 hose harness that plugs into the TVS (the one with the 2 top ports blocked off). I currently have the vacuum advance from the distributor going to a port on the lower left hand side of the base on the carb which is a Holley 750 with vacuum secondaries. I believe this port is straight manifold vacuum but I need to find out for sure. Is the way to find out is hook up a vacuum gauge to that port when the car is warmed up and at curb idle and see if it draws 12-15" Hg. Also I could hook up a timing light with the vacuum advance hooked up and see if it is reading 25-30 degrees advanced, pull off the vacuum advance and see if it reads 9-12 degrees BTDC. Only 1970-74 Pontiac Quadrajet with a ported vacuum source is the 1971 455H.O. and 455Ram Air units. These units uses a TVS, alla others uses the TCS.
