Default Engine harness issue with a '65

My LeMans is originally a 326 2 bbl auto with AC. The wiring harness was beat so I just replaced it with a new M&H engine harness for a manual trans car with AC and I am not getting power to the coil with the key on in run, but I can rotate it to the #2 position and the car will start and then die as soon as I let the key off. I took the plug off the ignition switch which is in perfect condition and took the ignition switch out to check continuity between power in and the #1 and #2 key positions and there is continuity. The new wiring harness has 7 wires coming out of the bulkhead connector and my original has 8 wires. I also have a short somewhere because I have an amp draw from the battery with the ignition switch off. I have all the necessary grounds attached.
