Default Engine harness issue with a '65

My LeMans is originally a 326 2 bbl auto with AC. The wiring harness was beat so I just replaced it with a new M&H engine harness for a manual trans car with AC and I am not getting power to the coil with the key on in run, but I can rotate it to the #2 position and the car will start and then die as soon as I let the key off. I took the plug off the ignition switch which is in perfect condition and took the ignition switch out to check continuity between power in and the #1 and #2 key positions and there is continuity. The new wiring harness has 7 wires coming out of the bulkhead connector and my original has 8 wires. I also have a short somewhere because I have an amp draw from the battery with the ignition switch off. I have all the necessary grounds attached. I checked continuity from the bulkhead connector and the coil wire and it is fine, what is going on?

Have you tried calling M&H?

That IGN-1, IGN-2 or both?

Zoom in on this diagram to see block location. I do not know if this view is from the front or back. Your good crank wire location will tell that though. Also don't know how close to the coil terminal the two wires come together. Usually the terminal itself, but could be spliced back in the harness, depends on how much resistance the IGN-1 wire has.

You can see a larger version of the wiring diagram Quick-Silver posted at the Old Car Manual Project website: http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/t...ing/index.html

I found a short somewhere in the battery light, temperature light and oil pressure light system that T's off the pink wire from ignition #1 terminal. I took the bulb out of the battery light and I have power to the coil with ignition #1 now. I have to check the three dummy light systems to find the short. Could it be a ground from the gauge clusters? The oil pressure wire, temp wire are not connected. Maybe the voltage regulator is not grounded well?

I found the problem. The brown wire and black with red stripes going into the voltage regulator were switched in the wiring harness from M&H. The assembler must have thought it would be funny for whoever got that harness.

Glad you got it figured out. Seems to me I had a similar issue with my engine harness for my 64. Yes it was a M&H harness as well.
Can't remember the exact issue but I did find 1 wire that was in wrong location. Don't think it was as severe as yours though. M&H might like to know about it.
