Sparkplug tubes
I have a need for sparkplug tubes about 1" diameter by 7 1/2" long. With all the modern overhead cam car engines (and some pushrod hemi engines) these days, I assume that a variety of sparkplug tubes exists. But I've never worked on such engines, so I don't know where to start looking?

Could you just lengthen 392 tubes?

It looks like Doorman makes aftermarket replacements. I would think they all should be about 1" diameter, but I didn't see legnth listed on most of them. just somewere to start.

Longest I can think of would be mopar slantum six. Probably a little bigger than 1" for a 13/16ths" plug socket to go in.

I don't think any of the modern engine OHC tubes will provide ID access for a 13/16" hex socket. Every one I have encountered is designed around the 14MM, thread, 5/8" hex socket spark plug. Are you running the traditional 13/16" plug sock size? Anyway to convert to the smaller 5/8" hex if you are?

Chrysler hemi tubes are 1.250" OD. I'm looking for smaller diameter due to the limited confines of my DOHC setup on the four cylinder. I'm using the Chrysler tubes but they're a mess from denting them to clear stuff (and the plug ends are about destroyed from plugs being in/out very often). Plugs are 5/8" hex and a plug socket would fit (but just barely) in a 1" OD tube. I would even be interested in tubes that are shorter then 7 1/2", as I could fairly easily extend the upper ends of them.

Not exactly what you need but close. Maybe you could fab your own based on these. You seem to be pretty adept at fabbing one off stuff!

Thanks Rob, those tubes from RBS may be useful to me, even though they are only .070" smaller.
In the meantime I'm "crowding" some dimensions to gain a wee bit more tube clearance, and perhaps continue using normal 392 tubes. It's barely visible in this photo, but I've actually cut a few thousands into the Helicoils that the pivot studs screw into- "can't go no more!"- but I did gain about .030". I'll also need to downsize the stud locknuts (7/16-14) from 11/16" hex to 5/8".
