Funny the Speed warning and Air pump are the same $11.7 price. Think of all the options one could have ordered with the $278 spent on air conditioning in a convertible.

You are reading the wrong column, the prices you refer to are the dealer cost. The retail price of those two options was $15.80 and $375.99 for AC.

You are right that you could get a lot of nice options for the price of AC.

For the price of AC you could instead order power steering, power disc brakes, Radio, rear speaker, wood wheel, tilt wheel and hideaways.

Btw, even though this car isn’t loaded $4,800 was big money for a GTO in 1970. Typical delivered price of a GTO was $4,000 to $4,300. That extra several hundred dollars was a lot in 1970 dollars and you tended to get nothing extra when you traded it in.

In those days the options that paid off at trade in time were power steering and brakes, automatic, AC, radio, vinyl top and on sporty cars like a GTO maybe a console and rally wheels. All other options added almost nothing to trade in value.

Good catch. Not sure what the vinyl top adds or subtracts nowadays, but removing it and letting it sit out in the elements has killed many a Pontiac.

I've collected many rare parts for my 69 Firebird 350HO. One of the most costly options was the AM/FM stereo radio. Not sure how much I paid for it, but I know paired with the 8-Track it was a very costly option. I also have a speed warning option for a 69 Firebird and from what I can remember there were <250 total produced. Not sure how many were put in 70 GTO's, but I would guess very few. Options like that aren't particularity cool, but due to the rarity it makes the car unique.

8 track and stereo radio together were about $400, big money in the day and both were eye candy for break and enter types.

68 Firebird 400 in Texas from one of the online dealers at $36.5K BIN. Seems like a nice NM car. Not sure if it's worth the asking price, especially from one of these dealers, but it is nice. BTW - I absolutely hate the steering wheel. The steering wheel is such a center piece for a car like this. Show me the same car with an original steering wheel and the interior jumps %10.

Typical weekend salesmen dealership, curbing a car they know nothing about.
No PHS info, Things wrong & missing items they purposely don't address making UN-suspecting buyers open for their classic deceptive games.

White vinyl top, they have this car listed on Craigslist:

These folks turn a lot of cars.

That looks like a nice car too. The added Ram Air appears to be scoops and RA exhaust manifolds.

68 Firebird in Indiana at $1.3K with a reserve. Guy posts his phone number, so you could make a deal over the phone. Seems like a super solid original car. Check out that steering wheel.

I agree, but I think it would look a lot better with a set of 14" Rally I wheels. The 17" Rally II's are cool, but not as cool as stock IMO.

1962 Bonneville in Minnesota at $600 with a reserve. 4 speed car, this was the first year of the Super Duty and this would have been a hot car back then. If you started with just this, I'd bet you'd lose money in restoring it. It's one of those tweener cars where the target audience is getting too old to fuel demand.

The dual-four-barrel version of the 421 SD was rated at 405 horsepower, but Motor Trend did some calculations in a 1962 road test, and figured out that a Super Duty engine pumped out more like 465 horses. Only manual transmissions were fitted to these cars, since the automatic that Pontiac used wasn't beefy enough to handle the power. The factory Firestone bias-plies surely couldn't handle the torque, or the twist from the mandatory 4.30 rear axle.

That seems like a lot of car/parts for the BIN price.
