Default axle removal

Hi guys,I have a 69 GTO rear end and my problem is: how do I remove the rear axles. The pin inside the differencial does not have a bolt to hold it in.I don't want to start beating on the pin until I know that I won't ruin it.I looked online and I could not find a differencial without a pin bolt.Thank you for any help.

Yes remove the 4 bolts. It'll pull out. Bearing may be a little snug in the end of axle tube. its pressed on the axle shaft.

I remember doing this with my 69 Judge back in the 70's. The bearings were so shot, when I pulled the axle, the ball bearings fell out. I was still able to save the axle however.

I had a heck of a time getting the axle out of mine. Axle doesn't want to come out of the bearing, and bearing doesn't want to come out of housing.
Forget the trick I finally used ... but I read about it on this forum and it worked. Axle came out with the bearing attached of course, as you would expect.
I was hammering on the back side of the axle flange ... and it wasn't working.

I had one stuck and used a slide hammer through one of the axle flange holes.

That may have been what I ended up doing, and I know on the second axle I put a big metal rod through the empty tube and tapped on the inside of the axle.

Maybe I heated it up ... jeez, wish I could remember cause I read something here, went down and tried it and it came right out .. seems like a slide hammer is too simple a solution

Wish the forum had a decent search function with the normal logic searches ... like "and" "not" quotes for phrases etc. Would make it hugely easier to find things.
