Trunk weatherstrip
I purchased a trunk weatherstrip from Soffseal and having a hell of a time closing the trunk. The weatherstrip seems very thick and over engineered for what it is. Anyone else had a problem with Soffseal?

Hello Joe. I'm sure someone using Soffseal will chime in, But if you can, show us a profile of the seal you used. Some brands are definitely larger than original.
Seems now that I search a little, there is a GM/Soffseal and a Soffseal. A lot more likes for the GM. "Bill"! You might get lucky and find the GM 4484836 NOS seal. They are still out there!!! |

I had the same problem when I finished my '64 in 2017. Leaving the trunk latched helps compress the weatherstrip, which made mine usable.

I used Soff Seal weather strips on my doors and they were very hard to close at first. They got better over time and I am now pleased with them.

Had soff seal for my trunk, took it off and got a Metro. Same thing, you could not close trunk lid without Slamming it. Metro was much better.

Bill, Profile of the Soffseal appears to be very close to oem but the oem has 1 void and the Soffseal has 2 voids which you would think would make the trunk easier to close. I ordered a weatherstrip from The Parts Place which will be here today. Not sure what brand it is.

in my 35 years of restos, I'll say softseal is anything BUT soft. way too stiff. I stopped using anything from them once Metro came around. trunk seals were so bad I had to loosen the latch to the point of hearing it rattle on bumps to get it to close without jumping on it kind of thing. Metro seals are definitely softer and would be the go to manufacturer for me.

Received the weatherstrip from The Parts Place a few days ago. There was no name on the bag but it fit perfect. I was able to close the trunk with very little resistance. One day later it was closing even better. The first weatherstrip I purchased was from Metro. I originally thought it was from Soffseal but turns out it was from Metro. I know there has been good reviews with Metro but I give it a thumbs down. The weatherstrip from The Parts Place has more of a oem appearance and I can close the trunk.
