Doing flat bench 10 reps 135 then 185 x10 reps add 20 lbs then keep going doing 10 as high as you can go doing 10 reps. Then less but as many as possible always adding 20 lbs after each set till you hit 100 reps.

46 here and realizing that age is finally catching up with me. Had a shoulder repair and ACL replacement in left knee last year. Had the right ACL replaced when I was 27 and was back to full speed in 6 months. It's closing in on 10 months since my left knee was done and I'm still having pain and down significantly on strength. It's getting better, but very slowly and the doctor showed me what my meniscus looks like and suggested I not go back to running 10 mi/day x 5 days/wk if I want to keep my natural knees.

I'll be happy to just get back on skis at this point.

My only goal is to enjoy as much of this life as I can. It's not a competition and I'm definitely a "slow down and enjoy the scenery" kind of guy.

I think that as you age, it makes sense to set goals-it keeps you going. Now in my 60's, I no longer lift "heavy" like I did when I was younger. Fact is, the joints just won't take it. So I decided to focus on overall health, flexibility, balance and strength with a goal of being able to do some things that most others my age can't. For example: at 60 I hiked to the top of Half Dome as well as several other points in Yosemite. This year I'm going to Yellowstone for 8 days of back-country hiking. This doesn't require tremendous strength but does require the ability to walk long distances (often with steep grades) while toting a 30-40 lb. pack. Point being by training for these types of activities you also help make your day to day activities easier.

I'm 44 and I'm feeling great. I stay healthy (although that hasn't always been the case). I weight train regularly and am the strongest I've ever been. A few years ago, I was really letting myself go and thought I was powerless to do anything about it. One day I had a heart to heart with myself and decided to get back into shape. Lost 40 lbs of blubber so far. I'd like to lose another 40. That'll put me at a lean 180lbs. My kids are still pretty young (8 and 9 years old) so I need to be more active to be able to keep up with them. So far so good!

I am 54 years old. I want to see my 1971 GT-37 get restored and enjoy it before I die. Just collecting parts now and fixing up the car little by little now.

I'm 48, just ended a 25 year construction career and started a new railroad career, shooting for at least 20 years there. Still work on my cars, farm and all the hunting I can fit in not to mention follow my son around the country when baseball season is in effect, I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Last June, the day before my 70th birthday, arthritis, a slipped disc & spinal stenosis sp,
caught up with me. I was looking at a wheelchair & wondering if this was my future?
A series of steroid shots put me back on my feet, with a very slight limp.
I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm still an OLD GOAT RACER !

This thread is a little bit of a reality check. Tough to read Mikes post here.

Weird that I remember my post here four years ago and I cant remember what I posted yesterday.

Sold the firebird...hardly miss it at all. It was a money pit and my wife holds the money. I still have my GTO. Still lifting 5 or 6 days a week. I am arm wrestling once a week. A great side benefit is you have to weigh in. So my diet is even better than before. Lots of meat and fat and green vegetables no grains or potato or rice. Feeling better than ever!big contest is Saturday!
